Colleen Hoover is the Best-Selling Author of 2022

Colleen Hoover’s 2016 novel It Ends With Us is the best-selling book of 2022 according to NDP BookScan.

Colleen Hoover Has Six Book in the Top Ten

The novel is one of six Hoover books in the top ten best-selling books of the year. Verity charted at No. 2, It Starts With Us charted at No. 4, Ugly Love charted at No. 5, Reminders Of Him charted at No. 7 and November 9 charted at No. 9.

TikTok has helped Hoover blow up over the past couple of years and garner a huge fanbase that can’t get enough of her books. That has led to Hoover selling 8.6 million print copies over the past year. That is more than the bible according to the New York Times. She sold more books than James Paterson and John Grisham combined over the past year.

With great success comes critics and Hoover has her fair share. Her books do not get much mention or recognition by major publications such as The New York Times and The New Yorker. But that hasn’t slowed Hoover’s sales as her success has been led by BookTok.

Early Career

It all started for Hoover in 2012 when she self-published her first book in 2012 which made the New York Times best-seller list. Since then, she has released 24 novels over the past decade and the 43-year old author is now a common name to see on the weekly book charts. As of October, It Ends With Us sold 4 million copies and in November, Hoover released the sequel, It Starts With Us.

The official end of year data has not been released as this is tracking from end of November 2021 to end of November 22. Expect Hoover to hit almost ten million in print sales and I wouldn’t be surprised if that is the case.

This is so depressing. As a lover of real literature, seeing Coleen Hoover selling even one book is a shame on society as a whole. The people who read her dross shouldn’t ever refer to them as books, as they are glorified gossip columns.

Her success is just another reason for me to die.

Shane! Please don’t die! If anything, these statistics can be inspiration for you! If you believe your books are “real literature” as opposed to “glorified gossip columns” then you technically have a leg up in the marketplace. If your book is really good, then there’s no reason you can’t sell 4 million copies too! You just need to try thinking like a marketer. I’d love to know your thoughts — if the masses started appreciating your literature more, how would it change the world? What do you think attracts people to Coleen Hoover’s books? Do some brainstorming, then reverse engineer Hoover’s marketing techniques to inspire more folks to purchase YOUR books. Make sense? What IS your book? What’s it about?

My book? It’s about a pseudo-intellectual who overuses exclamation marks because she thinks they make her sound impactful, but in truth, it’s to hide her lack of talent. Deep down, she knows she reads Coleen Hoover not because it’s a “guilty pleasure” but because it is the limit to her reading ability.
