All of the Game of Thrones Projects to Expect in the Near Future

Now that House of the Dragon is over, you might be wondering when the next Game of Thrones show or book might be arriving. That made us curious about all of the Game of Thrones related projects in the works. There are a lot more than you think and keep reading to find out all of the projects that will be arriving in the near future.

House of the Dragon Season 2

Let’s start with the obvious one: House of the Dragon Season 2. Days after season one premiered, the show announced a second season. The numbers from the first episode must have been really good for HBO to give another season a green light after one episode. The second season will arrive in late 2024 most likely.

Jon

George R.R. Martin has offered various Game of Thrones spinoffs and one of them is Jon. It follows the story of Jon Snow after the events of Game of Thrones. It is the closest iteration of continuing Game of Thrones that we are likely to get. Martin hasn’t said anything about what will happen after the book series A Song of Ice and Fire finishes. This is the best insight for fans of the books to get about a world after.

The show hasn’t been given a release date but with the success of House of the Dragon, it most likely will in the near future. Kit Harrington is set to return to play Jon Snow according to Martin. That is great news and it will surely bring back the You Know Nothing memes.

The Sea Snake

House of the Dragon is a prequel to Game of Thrones and it may also get a prequel. The Sea Snake would follow Lord Corlys Velaryon and his nine voyages that made House Velaryon one of the richest families in House of the Dragon. The family was done wrong by Martin in the show and it would be a great way of showcasing what could have been had Lord Velaryon given more power.

In The Sea Snake, Corlys Velaryon would be navigating his ship The Sea Snake to unseen lands. The show would be set during the reign of King Jaehaerys I Targaryen. We would finally get to see unseen lands in Game of Thrones such as Yi Ti and the Thousand Islands. I only fear that it may ruin the consistency of the Game of Thrones lore. The show has not been given a green light yet but it may soon because of the success of House of the Dragon.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

This is based on Martin’s Dunk and Egg novellas and it is yet another prequel. It takes place 70 years after the events of House of the Dragon and follows hedge knight Ser Duncan and his squire Egg who is the future King Aegon V Targaryen. This is 100 years before Game of Thrones and would follow Ser Duncan and Egg and their adventures all over the kingdom. The show is said to be helmed by Steve Conrad and the show hasn’t been green lit as of yet.

Ten Thousand Ships

Another show that may soon say the light of day is Ten Thousand Ships. It is yet another sequel that follows surrounds Princess Nymeria of the Rhoynar and her people as they board 10,000 ships in search of another home. They have been defeated by the Valyrian dragonlords. Princess Nymeria and her people will navigate various areas before they finally settle on Dorne.

I have a few comments and the first one is the obvious one that many people have: How did 10,000 ships even survive after being attacked by dragons? That is a whole army right there. I think this show has the least potential but it may be turned into a show as Martin has confirmed that showrunner Amanda Segel has submitted multiple drafts for the pilot script.

The Golden Empire

The Game of Thrones world would see its first animated show in The Golden Empire. Animated snippets based on the show have already been produced as DVD extras but never a full show. Yet another prequel but this one will explore the unseen lands of Yi TI in Essos. They are inspired by Imperial China and it is known for its treasures and societal advancements. No details about when the show will arrive but Martin has confirmed that it is in development.

The Winds of Winter

The long awaited The Winds of Winter is the sixth book in The Song of Ice and Fire series by Martin. It has been over a decade since the fourth book was published and fans are eagerly waiting for the release of this book. Martin has said that he is 75 percent done with the book and we can see it in the next two years.

A Dream of Spring

The seventh and final book in the The Song of Ice and Fire series. It has not been given a release date and Martin has not started working on it as he is still working on The Winds of Winter. The good news is that Martin knows how the series ends already so it won’t take as long. Let’s hope the pace of his writing is better and that we get the final book before the decade is over.

Conclusion

And there you have it. These are all of the Game of Thrones projects. Most of them don’t have a set release date but HBO has gotten drafts or idea pitches for them and they are being considered. The success of House of the Dragon means that HBO is most likely going to continue building Game of Thrones related content and Martin has a lot of ideas he would like to build on.
