George R. R. Martin Gives an Update on The Winds of Winter

George R. R. Martin is working hard, writing The Winds of Winter and he has given us an update on his writing. Keep reading to find out how close Martin is to finishing the novel!

Tyrion Arc

Just a month ago, Martin said he was working on the fifth novel in The Song of Ice and Fire series and was focused on a main plot point. He wrote on his blog “I think I’m close to finishing the Tyrion arc in Winds of Winter. I think this chapter and maybe one further chapter; and I won’t be done with the book, but I’ll be done with Tyrion’s role in this particular book. And then I’ll have to focus on another character, some of whom are also close, some of whom are not at all close. And then hopefully it all fits together.”

Now, we have gotten an on how he is coming along. “I hope to wrap up the story line for one of the viewpoint characters of WINDS OF WINTER this week. Maybe even two.”

Release Date

That is great news for everyone who is eager for this novel to finally come out. The estimated date is November 2023 which is a little over a year. It has been 11 years since the last novel, A Dance with Dragons and there is still one more novel after that.

Martin is still working on the novel but it looks like he is on the tail end of the novel. It is great to get reassuring updates and hopeful the writing pace doesn’t decline so we can finally get to read the long-awaited novel.

Knowing Martin, it will probably get pushed back as he does too many things at once

I call bulls*^t on this. I have been a devoted fan to the real written legacy of this. I was a fan in the year of 2021. I have read all the books and have been held on for many years after the release of the last book which is much different than the HBO presentation of the books on many levels and I awaited all the years between the book and have never been let down, but the greater than the 7 years after the last book that was promised in 2-3 years after the last book that was promised in the same time which took more than 4 years to produce… I was left off on the last book with the situation with Bridgette being hung, Brann Stark, Theon, and other characters that the HBO series ignored and I wish I had not watched. I want the resolution of the series or even a more truthful result of the series from George R. R. Martin in his writing which he promised to complete. The ending of the HBO final series is simply bullshit and I am willing to bet that if George R. R. Martin has any say so in his books, it will show it, but it is cruel to his reader audience at the simplest and will be a stain to suggest that he profited on HBO to make a story that he had not yet completed only to gain the profit of it and I would hope that he would not do that. Not begrudging anything, but I don’t see how you can support a motion picture device with an ending without having a written story but who am I to judge? I has been 7 years since the latest update and I do not consider the HBO series cannon. Please make it a priority to hear from you George R. R. Martin as I have been waiting since the year of 2000 to read the full series.
