The Murderbot Diaries was recently adapted by Apple TV and we will be covering everything you need to know about the show. So, keep reading as dive into Apple’s latest sci-fi show!

The first season of Murderbot aired on  May 16, 2025 and was created by Paul Weitz and Chris Weitz. It stars  Alexander Skarsgård as Murderbot and the first season is based on the novella All Systems Red.

Martha Wells, the author of The Murderbot Diaries, was a consulting producer of the show. Authors should always be a big part of the adaptation or it will miss the mark. I am glad that Wells had her hands on the show and it helps in being an honest adaptation.

After reading the series, I knew I was going to watch this show and review each episode after watching them. This is easily one of my favorite series and I will be judging every decision. But at the end of the day, I will be enjoying it and just glad that it got adapted. You can see the full episodes and reviews below!

Season One Thoughts

If you are like me, then you will most likely also binge watch the first season. Once the show picks up, you have to know what happens next. There is a lot going on in this show and one my favorite things about the show was them making a TV show of some of Murderbot’s favorite shows.

Season Two of Murderbot was announced on July 15, 2025. That shouldn’t come as a surprise because season one was great and I credit the marketing team for promoting it properly. The show does deviate from the books somewhat and I wasn’t as mad as I thought I would be.

It is a different medium and pulling some of things in the novel are a lot more complicated. I’d rather them focus on making the best show possible.

The second season of Murderbot will likely combine books Artificial Condition, Rogue Protocol, and Exit Strategy. I hope that means we will be getting a longer season because 10 episode won’t be enough for that. Or that the episode will be a lot longer.

Conclusion

As a fan of sci-fi novels, I enjoyed the first season of Murderbot a lot. The show doesn’t complicate things and is easy to follow for anyone who hasn’t read the books.

It stays true to the show most of the time and you can tell Martha Wells was consulted. After Severance, Apple continues to dive into the sci-fi genre and they did a great job. I will be excited to see what season two has to offer!
