We will be talking about 2024 for years to come as it was an incredible year for new books. And now, we finally have data on the bestselling books of 2024 so keep reading to find out what books sold the most!

The 2020s have been great for literature and we have seen many new authors make a name for themselves. But authors that have been writing for decades also proved that they are still getting better with age. 

Like music, books and authors also seem to have big following, leading to some authors making multiple appearances on the list. It is hard to ignore the emergence of romantasy novels and their dominance. Four out of the ten bestselling books were romantasy novels and this trend should continue in the future. 

The Bestselling Books of 2024

The bestselling book of 2024 was The Women by Kristin Hannah. That shouldn’t come as a surprise as the novel was released early in the year and was often the bestselling book of the week for most of 2024. Hannah is an amazing and talented author and I am happy to see her seeing this type of success.

In second place was Dog Man: The Scarlet Shedder by Dav Pilkey and he is always going to appear on these lists with every new release. In third place was A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas, a novel that was published in 2015. Maas has another book in the top ten and I imagine a bunch more in the top 25 list.

Bloomsbury increased their expected projections because of how well Maas’ books were selling in January of 2024. Rebecca Yarros is the other author with multiple books making the top ten, which are also romantasy novels. 

Thanks to these to an increasing popularity of romantasy novels, fiction print books saw grew in sales by 9.5 million units. Adult non-fiction saw a decline with few adult non-fictions getting much attention. 

Overall, it was a positive year as print books saw a 1 percent increase in the U.S. That changed the trend of books declining for the past two years, with adult fiction books leading the charge.
