The third novel in the Crescent City series by Sarah J. Maas has topped the charts in a record setting fashion.
House of Flame and Shadow became the third fastest-selling fiction and fantasy book of all time. Released on January 30, the novel sold 44,761 copies in the first week.
House of Flame and Shadow Tops Charts
The two novels it trails are Terry Pratchett’s 2011 book Snuff with 54,687 first week sales and Rebecca Yarros’s Iron Flame novel, which sold 57,055 sales last November.

As you may notice, the romantasy genre has been very popular as of late and has two of the three best-selling science fiction and fantasy novels of all time. The recent trend has been credited to social media and Tik Tok videos. Hashtags related to Mass have been viewed over 14 billion times according to Bloomsbury, her publisher.
Social Media Propels Sarah J Maas to New Heights
It is no wonder that publishing companies are pushing authors towards a bigger social media and Tik Tok presence. But it is not something that anyone can do. You need amazing books that readers will love and actively promote them with little to no incentive.
Even before this novel was released, many people expected to sell really well. And that’s because Mass has skyrocketed in popularity over the past couple of years. This is the culmination of all her previous novels as her fanbase has grown.
Mass should stay on top of the best-selling list for a few weeks or even the rest of the month. Tik Tok will be a big reason why as they spread word about House of Flame and Shadow. It will be amazing to see just how popular Sarah J. Maas becomes in the following years and where the romantacy genre goes from here.
