If you had to check one list for the best books of the year, then NPR is the one I would recommend. Their lists are filled with hundreds of books and you know that someone there read the books on the list. Keep reading to see what made NPR’s list of the best books of 2024 and what our favorite selections were!

The best way to get a good grasp of the best books of the year, then NPR is where you go. What other website has a list of over 300 of the best books? That is just too much books for one publication (not named NPR) to cover. I do think that the New York Times does a good job covering new released but even they can’t compare to NPR who has a daily podcast about what new books to check out.

NPR’s list has some of the typical books that most list seem to have like James by Percival Everett and Martyr! By Kaveh Akbar. They are some of the best books of the year and deserve all the recognition that they get. But one spot for them means one less spot for another novel that is also good but didn’t make the list because of the list limit.

Somewhere Beyond the Sea
Somewhere Beyond the Sea by TJ Klune

Having no limit is a great way to give smaller books a chance to shine and let readers see new names on these lists. Books like Somewhere Beyond the Sea by TJ Klune are amazing and yet won’t be on many lists even though it is a standout novel. That is why I like when publications include the best books by genre, making it a little bit fairer for books that aren’t as popular as James.

You can check out NPR’s list here and with this list, they have officially crossed over the 4000 mark with their 12th annual list. That is a lot of books and if you ever find yourself looking for your next read, then NPR is worth checking out. Happy reading!
