Game of Thrones Movie Is In the Works And Everyone is Wondering Why?

The internet was surprised with news that a Game of Thrones movie was in development. That begs the question, do we need a Game of Thrones movie?

Warner Bros is said to reportedly be in the early stages of making a Game of Thrones movie and everyone is wondering why. There is already a Game of Thrones prequel on HBO and a bunch of other Game of Thrones spinoffs are in the works. So why are we getting a Game of Thrones movie?

The obvious answer is because of money. Warner Bros is also bringing back Harry Potter with a TV show set to release in 2026. They are trying to bring back popular franchises so fans of those franchises will come flocking back. I think this may work for Harry Potter but will be a disaster and a waste of money for the Game of Thrones movie.

If you have watched the Game of Thrones show, then you know that the ending was a big letdown. The show aired for seven seasons and the first five seasons were great because there was a lot of buildup to major events and battles. But a movie will have to speed upthose buildups and it won’t work the same. That is if people still care about Game of Thrones and I don’t think there will be much hype this time around.

The TV and movie landscape is a lot different now then it was 10 years ago. And with so many streaming services, Game of Thrones will be one of many movies and franchises that are trying to fight for our attention. And with the movie industry in the decline, this move seems to be ill-timed. But like every other production company, Warner Bros needs a franchise to help make a profit.

Ultimately, that is all this is at the end of the day. A money grab that is trying to bank on our nostalgia. As a fan of A Song of Ice and Fire series, I just want Martin to work on the books and finish writing The Winds of Winter. This project will be one more thing he is working on, delaying the book even further. Nobody wants that for a movie of a TV show that was completed, albeit a horrible ending.

We don’t even know what the movie will be about as of yet. There are so many prequels in the works so I don’t think it will be a prequel. I imagine it to be a major battle because those are visually appealing and they were some of the biggest standouts from the show. But they are expensive and with how poorly new movies are doing at the box office, Warner Bros will be treading carefully.

There hasn’t been much fanfare about a new Game of Thrones movie and I wonder if it will draw much interest. I know I am done with the Game of Thrones universe and I am only interested in the books at this point. Warner Bros wants to turn it around and is relying heavily on Game of Thrones and other big franchises to do so. But the end result has to be top tier quality or it will be one more failed movie that people will not pay to see.
