Actress Witherspoon has announced Redwood Court by DéLana R. A. Dameron for Reese’s Book Club for the month of February.
Reese Witherspoon Selects Redwood Court As Monthly Book For Book Club
The novel is about a Black working-class suburban town in South Carolina in the 1990s. Mika is told her family’s history, from her grandparents moving to the town during Jim Crow as well as well as her parents working mutliple jobs. The novel was published on February 6, 2024.
Expect the novel to sell a lot more copies now that Witherspoon has selected it for her book club. The actress revealed the pick with an Instagram post with a video of her holding the novel. The caption of the post says “This book is filled with a sense of nostalgia as Mika takes us down memory lane, sharing stories of her Southern Black family through a collection of vivid vignettes.”

Novel Highlights Jim Crow Laws During Black History Month
This is a great pick by Witherspoon and a great way to celebrate Black History Month. The Jim Crow era is often neglected in schools and few Americans know what African Americans experienced under these racist laws.
Reese’s Book Club is considered the second biggest book club right behind Opera’s Book Club. And while it may not be as big as Oprah’s club, it also has propelled many books to the best-seller list. What do you make of Witherspoon’s pick? Let us know in the comments below!
