With season one of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power completed, everyone is wondering when season two will be airing. When is season two going to arrive on Amazon Prime and what can fans expect?
When is The Rings of Power Season Two Release Going to Arrive?
Before season one finished airing, season two already started filming. That is good news as the show is looking ahead and not wasting any time. The bad news is that no release date for the show has been given. As the show is currently in shooting, it may take anywhere from 6 months to a 18 months for filming alone to wrap up.
One of the showrunners of the show Patrick McKay said in an interview that he expects to be working on the show for “another couple years.” That timeline would mean that we would get season two in Fall 2024.

Some people might look at how long season one took to predict when season two will air and that would be a bad idea. It took 5 years for the show to air since it started filming but filming had to be halted due to the pandemic. Now with experience under their belts, showrunners McKay and J.D. Payne have gained experience that will speed up the filming process for season two.
Season two is most likely to arrive in late 2024 or early 2025. Taking any longer will leave fans angry and general viewers will forget all about this show. Amazon has already planned to make 5 seasons of the show and that may take a decade or more to accomplish.

Season Two Plot
You might be wondering what will happen in season two? With the identity of Sauron revealed, expect him to build his army and fight Adar for Middle-earth, now known as Mordor. The three rings have been forged by the Elves and we should see more rings formed in season two. Expect the battle for Middle-earth to pick up as the Elves and the Numenoreans will return to help the humans.
Nori has set off to help the stranger as they set towards Rhun. Not sure what will happen there but we will learn more of the identity of the stranger. He may or may not be Gandalf and we won’t find out for a while.
Conclusion
Do not expect a quick turnaround for season two because it takes time to make a show as big as this perfect. A lot goes into it and even with only 8 episodes, it will still take a while before it arrives on Amazon Prime.
I’m thinking the stranger is Saruman the White.
Maybe since Gandalf doesn’t arrive til later in Tolkien lore
The LotR fandom site indicates the 5 wizards arrived in the 2nd and third age. Saruman and Gandalf were the first two. In the movies Gandalf refers to Saruman as the oldest and most wise of their order. He is one of them.
