Fans of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight saga may not have seen the last of Forks, the Cullens, and the supernatural world that became a global phenomenon.
Meyer has confirmed that she has ideas for additional stories set in the Twilight universe, including plans she previously described as at least two more books. But fans hoping to see a new Twilight novel soon may need to be patient.
As of 2026, Stephenie Meyer has not announced a release date, title, or publication schedule for another Twilight book. In fact, her latest comments suggest that while the stories exist in outline form, she isn’t certain when, or even if, she will eventually turn all of them into finished novels.
So, what do we actually know about the next Twilight books? Here is everything Meyer has revealed so far.
Stephenie Meyer Has More Twilight Stories Outlined
Excitement about new Twilight books originally surged in 2020 following the release of Midnight Sun.
During promotional appearances for the novel, Meyer revealed that she already had plans for additional stories in the Twilight universe. She said she had at least two books mapped out and had even begun writing part of the first one.
However, Meyer also made it clear that she wasn’t ready to immediately return to the series. After spending years completing Midnight Sun, she wanted the opportunity to create an entirely new world, mythology, and group of characters before revisiting Twilight.
Her official website continues to warn readers that future Twilight novels could take a very long time to arrive. Meyer compared the potential wait to the famously lengthy journey of Midnight Sun, which took years to complete.
That means fans should view these books as planned future stories rather than officially scheduled releases.
What Will the Next Twilight Book Be About?
This is where things become much more interesting.
Meyer has already revealed that a future story would move beyond the ending of Breaking Dawn rather than simply retelling another book from a different perspective.
According to Meyer, Renesmee Cullen and Leah Clearwater would serve as narrators in the future story. It would take place several years after the events of Breaking Dawn, although exactly how much time passes will depend on when Meyer eventually writes it.
That opens up plenty of possibilities.
Renesmee’s unusual half-human, half-vampire existence was one of the biggest developments in Breaking Dawn, while Leah remains one of the most intriguing members of the Quileute shape-shifters. Giving both characters larger roles would allow Meyer to explore parts of the Twilight universe that were only briefly touched on in the original saga.
Bella and Edward would still exist in this world, but the story wouldn’t necessarily revolve entirely around them.
Will Bella and Edward Return?
Bella Swan and Edward Cullen could still appear in future Twilight stories, although Meyer has not confirmed exactly how important their roles would be.
In September 2025, Meyer gave fans another intriguing update during an interview featured on Good Morning America. She said she still has additional stories outlined and considers the Twilight story to continue beyond Breaking Dawn. However, she also acknowledged that she doesn’t know whether she will personally get around to writing all of them.
That is an important distinction.
There are clearly more stories that Meyer has imagined for these characters, but that doesn’t mean two completed sequels are currently heading toward publication.
For fans searching for a new Twilight book release date, there simply isn’t one yet.
Will There Be a Midnight Sun Sequel?
Fans hoping Meyer will rewrite New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn from Edward Cullen’s perspective shouldn’t get their hopes up.
Midnight Sun retold the events of the original Twilight through Edward’s eyes, giving readers much more insight into his thoughts, abilities, relationship with Bella, and complicated view of himself.
But Meyer has said she does not plan to rewrite the remaining novels from Edward’s perspective.
On her official website, she explains that writing Midnight Sun was an unusually slow and frustrating process because she was constrained by a story that had already been written. Meyer has said she prefers creating something new rather than retelling an existing plot.
That makes the planned Renesmee and Leah storyline particularly exciting because it would move the Twilight saga forward rather than revisiting events readers already know.
When Will the Next Twilight Book Be Released?
There is currently no release date for the next Twilight book.
No official title has been announced either, and there has been no confirmed publishing date for either of the two potential novels Meyer previously discussed.
Meyer’s official comments have repeatedly emphasized patience. She wants to work on other creative projects and has described any eventual return to Twilight as something that could happen slowly.
Her September 2025 comments made the timeline even less certain. Meyer confirmed that she still has stories outlined, but admitted she doesn’t know whether she’ll ultimately get around to writing them.
For now, fans should be skeptical of rumors claiming that a new Twilight novel already has a 2026, 2027, or other specific release date unless Meyer or her publisher officially announces one.
Twilight Is Still Expanding Beyond the Books
Even without a confirmed new novel, the Twilight franchise isn’t disappearing.
Netflix is developing an animated adaptation of Midnight Sun that will retell the original story from Edward Cullen’s perspective. Stephenie Meyer is involved as an executive producer, while Sinead Daly is writing and executive producing the series. Netflix continued to list the project among its upcoming book adaptations in late 2025.
That project could introduce the franchise to another generation of viewers while longtime fans wait to see whether Meyer eventually returns to the books.
Will There Really Be Two More Twilight Books?
The best answer right now is: possibly, but they aren’t officially scheduled yet.
Meyer previously said she had at least two additional Twilight stories planned, and her official website provides surprisingly specific information about a future story involving Renesmee and Leah Clearwater. More recently, she confirmed that she still has stories outlined.
But fans shouldn’t treat those plans as the same thing as two books being officially announced for publication.
There are currently no confirmed titles or release dates.
Still, the fact that Meyer continues to imagine what happens after Breaking Dawn should give Twilight fans reason to remain interested. The original saga may have ended years ago, but the world surrounding Bella, Edward, Renesmee, Jacob, Leah, and the Cullens apparently has more stories left to tell.
And if Meyer eventually decides to write them, returning to Forks could become one of the biggest fantasy book events in years.

Meyers is the trash food of fiction. She puts the pulp in pulp fiction. I have read most of her books as my kids were reading them and I wanted to check them for being appropriate. They are not suitable for anyone to read. To call them trash is to denigrate trash.
Pulp is not trash. That is all
Yeah, but they’re still entertaining. The twilight novels are a gift to mankind.
you are the trash of the world. you are everything wrong with society. you are so smelly. twilight doesn’t deserve your criticism. it is beauty and you are the beast. you are more than just trash- you are toxic. please bring your negative energy somewhere else, feces.
Big brain energy right here
And your a HYPOCRITE
I’m sorry mr mark that you got such a dislike for the books but people what we’re doing to this man saying he’s below trash that he’s toxic that’s cyber bullying I know because I went through that in school let’s take a breather calm down but yes mark I also do disagree with your comment these books have a little sense above child and teen but these are still good books
They where thrilling and exciting and so much love and passion
Maybe kids under18 should.not watch but are children are way above we where when it comes to violence.
I loved the book and the saga and will watch over and over. Love it. My favorite movie saga.
No they are not TRASH, AND so you Let your kids read them before you found if they are appropriate that being a hypocrite you should of done that first before they read them
If you don’t like the book, you don’t need to leave an angry message saying how the books are trash and they aren’t worth calling books. Keep bad opinions to yourself and let others have piece of mind. There is no benefit of saying this afterall.
Shut up
Please take your negativity away from a positive place and shove where you will never sparkle if you catch my drift. Sincerely, a person who now doesnt like you at all.
Dear Mark….I can see you are a young, impressionistic man who believes as do many an ignorant right wing reservanist. Stephenie Meyers books are far beyond popular…she will go down in history as one of the great writers of the 21st century, and there will be many.many more books and, dare I say it? MOVIES to come’ I am one of the 100,000+ fans and eagerly look forward to any and ALL of her books!!
Don’t say Right WIng People are ignorant. I see you are the coward to make your snarky comment as Anonymous. Liking Books and Movies has nothing to do with Politics. It’s personal preference.
she is one of the best writers there are and if you dont like her suck it up because what you said wasnt a review it was just plain rude
Thank You! Y’all are hating these awesome books. My fave books/movie saga right now. SUCK IT UP.
I think the books and the movies are awesome. You don’t know what you’re talking about.
Mark, I really hate the negative energy thrown at these amazing books. You are not a good citizen to the people throwing these comments out. Keep your thoughts to yourself or start a hate-page or whatever to take your crap elsewhere. From -a person that now doesn’t like you or your vibe.
It’s been a long time since the Manson forums…when all this began. As such. Since Renesmee is all grown up, and most of the cast is still young enough. I’d say the Volturi hunting her would make a good trilogy.
i have never read a chapter book but im a little disappointed that this was the first chapter book i read because now i know theirs no hope for the others lol i loved them sooo much i feel bad for all the other teen books because theirs no competition compared to this there soo good i love them also i would love if you/she could make a Edwards p.o.v in eclipse and breaking dawn i love them soo much (BTW this was not a insult is was very much of a complement)
Hey Aly! I totally agree! I just finished Midnight Sun and absolutely LOVED it. I feel like that is one of the best Twilight books. It was totally different to see it in a different p.o.v.
The only good writing in Twilight is the fanfiction…and no not EL James. Don’t get me started on that cow – we were in the same fanfic groups when Masters of the Universe began. I was a part of the fandom at the beginning and they are crappy. The only redeeming quality is the supporting characters – Jasper, Carlisle, Alice, the Pack and the Volturi. My teenage daughter threw the book down the stairs and called it nauseating. Bella is NO Katniss. She’s a milquetoast whiner who cares about no one but herself and an abusive, controlling, asshole.
I totally disagree. You see Edward as a piece of masochistic crap. Have some respect. I am a new, fresh Twilight fan and am willing to read anything Twilight related. Twilight’s not for everybody, but keep your negative thoughts to yourself.
Loved Twilight. Didn’t start reading the series until I saw the first movie with my daughter. Books way better than the movie, but, to be fair, I saw the movie about 12 times in the theater. I will read anything twilight related. I took my daughters to at least four of the conventions as well. so, yeah, I’m all in on Twilight.
I love the books and Continue writing!
I absolutely LOVE these books. I agree that the books were better than the movies but they were still great. I feel like every book nerd -as myself- will go through this phase. My parents call me over-obsessive of these books that I do not have any other life. If you’re like me, S.O.S! If you’ve convinced your family that these books are actually great, then help! Y’all, Team Edward or Team Jacob?
❤ Book nerd, Hannah
(Team Edward BTW)
