January was a busy month for me when it came to reading books. I got a good start on my reading goal for the year. Keep reading to find out which books I read in January 2024!

The first month of the year is a good indicator of how the year will go when it comes to reading. And I am happy that I was able to read 8 books. The books I read were all over the place but I did have a goal of reading history books more this year.

With that said, I was able to check off a bunch of popular books from the past year. Like many readers, I am still trying to get through some of the most popular books from last year and see if the hype is real. And for the most part, the novels lived up to it. You can see the full list below!

Books I Read in January

Fourth Wing

Fourth Wing
Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros

One of if not the biggest novel of last year had to be Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros. It is a romantic fantasy novel and while I am not the biggest romance fan, I loved every second of this novel. The world building is great and Yarros does a good job of balancing the romance and fantasy aspects of the novel. It is a fantastic novel that I devoured in less than two days.

Tokyo Ueno Station

I have been reading various Japanese novels over the past few months and decided to give Tokyo Ueno Station a read in January. And I have to say, this was a powerful short story that I loved from the first page. The novel tells the tragic story of Kazu and his bad luck as he looks back on all the hardships he endured as a husband, father, and a homeless man in Japan.

Yellowface

Yellowface by R.F Kuang

After reading Babel by R. F. Kuang, I knew I had to read her latest novel Yellowface. It is about a white author who steals the manuscript of her Asian friend who tragically passes away in front of her. She finally gets the fame and recognition she craves but someone on the internet won’t let her get away scot-free. Kuang’s novel is a commentary of the publishing world and also a great story to lose yourself in.

Conclusion

Whenever I read books, I have no idea what books I will be reading next. The books I read in January were great and I will be reading more books from some of these authors in the near future. February is a shorter month but I hope I am able to read the same amount of books. Until next month, happy reading!
