Harry Potter Autographed Set Fails to Sell at Auction

J. K. Rowling’s limited first edition autographed set of Harry Potter books were unable to secure a minimum bid of $119,500 at Christie’s auction house.

Harry Potter Autographed Set Fails to Sell

That is a lot for a set of limited edition books but in fact it is a lot less than previous sold copies of Harry Potter books, In December of 2021, a first edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone sold for $471,000.

We will never really know why this set was not purchased by anyone considering prior success for Harry Potter novels. Part of the reason is because of J. K. Rowling’s dwindling reputation. Another reason might be because of rumors that one of signatures might have been forged. Or there might be too many Harry Potter books being auctioned as of late.

No matter the reason, seeing this happen must be surprising for many considering the success of the novels. The Harry Potter world is still as popular as ever considering all the new Harry Potter stuff coming out. We could do without the Fantastical Beast movies in my opinion.

Harry Potter News

There is going to be a Harry Potter theme park opening in the near future and that should be a big hit. Something that has been also a hit has is a sport called Quidditch. A real-life sport was created and named after the fictional game from the books. Last week, the Quidditch league decided to change the name to Quadball because of Rowling’s transphobia.

Rowling’s reputation has made people not want to associate with her and that may have been the case with the books. With less people to bid, it hurt the chances of the books being sold.

Conclusion

Do you think Rowling’s reputation hurt the auction? Paying $120,000 for any book is insane but people have spend three times as much before. What changed over the last six months?
