The Golden Fleece saved Camp Half-Blood, brought Thalia Grace back, and left Percy Jackson with a new question: What if the Great Prophecy is about her? Before Percy Jackson and the Olympians returns, remember who wanted Thalia back, why Zeus turned her into a tree, and how close Luke came to getting what he wanted.

Season 3 premieres Friday, November 20, 2026, with two episodes on Disney+ and Hulu in the U.S., followed by two episodes each week. The new season adapts The Titan’s Curse, the third book in Rick Riordan’s series.

Spoiler warning: This recap covers all of Season 2. The Season 3 section covers Disney’s announced setup.

Why Percy and Clarisse Went After the Golden Fleece

Luke Castellan poisons Thalia’s pine tree, weakening the magical border that keeps monsters out of Camp Half-Blood. Around the same time, Percy’s satyr friend Grover goes missing. Through their empathy link, Percy discovers that Grover is alive and being held by Polyphemus, the Cyclops who guards the Golden Fleece. The Fleece can heal the tree, so rescuing Grover and saving the camp lead to the same island.

Clarisse La Rue, the daughter of Ares, gets the official quest. Percy goes after Grover with Annabeth Chase and Tyson, a Cyclops whom Poseidon has claimed as his son. That makes Tyson Percy’s half brother. The group eventually gets Grover out and recovers the Fleece. Clarisse brings it back to camp, where Luke and his followers are closing in.

How the Golden Fleece Brought Thalia Back

Luke attacks Camp Half-Blood with rogue demigods and monsters. While his followers go after the tree, Luke duels Percy. Tyson intervenes when Luke is about to land a killing blow, and Percy passes Clarisse a spear with the Fleece attached. Clarisse throws it into the tree. The Fleece heals the damage, and Thalia emerges in human form. A burst of lightning knocks both her and Percy unconscious.

Luke wanted the Fleece to free Thalia. Annabeth had told him it could bring her back, betting that his loyalty to their old friend could outweigh his loyalty to Kronos. Annabeth believes Thalia will side with her. Percy sees the risk in that bet: Thalia has reasons to listen to Luke, too.

Why Zeus Turned Thalia Into a Tree

Annabeth, Luke and Thalia traveled together before reaching camp. The story the campers heard was that Thalia stayed behind to protect her friends from the Furies and that Zeus turned his daughter into a pine tree to save her life.

In the finale, Chiron tells Percy, Annabeth and Grover what he witnessed. Zeus struck down the Furies and told Thalia she would have to fight for the gods in the coming war. Thalia refused. Zeus turned her into a tree as punishment, then ordered Chiron to keep the truth from the others. Riordan’s novel uses the version in which Zeus saves his dying daughter. The series keeps Thalia’s return and changes what she remembers about her father.

That change gives Thalia a personal stake in Luke’s argument against Olympus. He used to be someone she trusted. Zeus is the father who punished her for refusing to fight his war. Annabeth gets her friend back just as the two sides have reasons to pull her in different directions.

What Thalia’s Return Means for the Great Prophecy

The Great Prophecy says a child of Zeus, Poseidon or Hades could determine the fate of Olympus. Percy is Poseidon’s son, so he already has reason to think it could be about him. Thalia’s return puts another possible candidate in play. Even after the camp survives Luke’s attack, the prophecy still leaves open what either demigod might choose when the gods ask for help.

What Season 3 Picks Up

Disney’s trailer sets up a rescue. Kronos’s forces capture Annabeth, and Percy and Grover set out to find her. The new quest also involves a captive goddess and the Hunters of Artemis. Thalia returns, and the season introduces Nico and Bianca di Angelo.

If you have time to rewatch one episode, make it Season 2, Episode 8, “The Fleece Works Its Magic Too Well.” It shows how Clarisse completes the quest, how Thalia returns, and what Chiron kept secret.
