Spoiler warning: This article reveals Mark Hamill’s role and discusses the opening of Carrie episode six.

Mark Hamill has a surprise role in Mike Flanagan’s Carrie, and his character is a long way from Luke Skywalker. The actor appears as a fraudulent fortune teller in episode six of the Prime Video series, disguised enough that viewers could easily miss the familiar face.

For readers who came to the adaptation through Stephen King’s novel, the appearance offers two reasons to pay attention: another collaboration between Hamill and Flanagan, and a scene that contrasts pretending to have supernatural abilities with living with them.

Who Does Mark Hamill Play in Carrie?

Hamill plays Damon Nostra, a fortune teller whose real name is Greg McMurray. He appears in the opening of episode six, titled “Home Economics.”

As TVLine’s episode breakdown explains, Nostra’s carefully constructed persona conceals a fake psychic. His disguise includes facial hair, a partly closed eye and an altered voice.

A woman troubled by visions visits him seeking help. The encounter exposes the gap between the powers he advertises and his inability to deal with an actual supernatural crisis. The sequence becomes disturbing, so viewers expecting a lighthearted celebrity cameo should be prepared for horror.

Why Was Mark Hamill’s Appearance Kept Secret?

The secrecy was Hamill’s request.

Speaking to PEOPLE about the surprise appearance, Flanagan recalled Hamill saying, “Just don’t tell anyone I’m doing that.”

Flanagan said Hamill joined the production for half a day and was enthusiastic about participating. Their existing working relationship helped make the guest appearance possible.

Keeping his name out of the advance reveal also lets the scene introduce Nostra as a character before viewers recognize the actor behind him.

Hamill and Flanagan Have Worked Together Before

Fans of Flanagan’s adaptations have already seen Hamill take on a very different literary character.

In The Fall of the House of Usher, he plays Arthur Pym, the Usher family’s lawyer and fixer. Netflix’s cast guide identifies Hamill among the ensemble of the Edgar Allan Poe-inspired series.

Hamill also appears in Flanagan’s The Life of Chuck. Stephen King’s official film page lists him among its stars.

That makes Carrie another meeting point between Hamill, Flanagan and literary adaptation. The recurring collaboration is a useful reason to look beyond the headline: Hamill’s role fits an established creative relationship.

Why the Fortune Teller Scene Matters

The most interesting part of the cameo is the contrast between a man who performs supernatural authority and a woman who wants relief from supernatural experiences.

Read this way, Nostra’s scene becomes a miniature version of a question at the center of Carrie: what happens when someone has extraordinary abilities but cannot find understanding or help?

A fake psychic can sell the promise of control. Someone experiencing powers has to live with the consequences. The scene’s horror comes from the distance between those positions.

This is an interpretation of the sequence, rather than a confirmed explanation of Flanagan’s intentions. It nevertheless gives book readers a useful way to consider the cameo beyond spotting a famous actor.

Where Can You Watch the New Carrie?

Mike Flanagan’s Carrie premiered on Prime Video on October 7, 2026. His official project page confirms the release date and lists Summer H. Howell as Carrie White and Samantha Sloyan as Margaret White.

For Hamill’s appearance, look for the opening of episode six, “Home Economics.”

Readers interested in comparing the adaptation with its source can also revisit King’s novel. The cameo provides a useful starting point for thinking about how television creates additional scenes around an established book’s central ideas.
