James Bond is heading to 1950s Ceylon in All In, a new adventure by historian and bestselling author Dan Jones. Scheduled for December 3, 2026, the book brings 007 into a dangerous hunt for a precious gemstone.
For readers drawn to historical settings and spy fiction, the combination is intriguing: a historian writing Bond in a world shaped by Britain’s retreat from empire. Here’s what has been confirmed about the release, story and returning character.
When Does All In by Dan Jones Release?
All In will be published on Thursday, December 3, 2026. The official book listing confirms hardback, ebook and audiobook editions.
The publisher describes the book as a novella on its homepage. Readers can therefore expect a shorter Bond adventure rather than a full-length novel.
The special hardback will be sold exclusively through the Ian Fleming Shop, while the ebook and audiobook will be available globally through regular digital platforms.
What Is All In About?
The story takes place in Ceylon, now Sri Lanka, in 1954. Britain’s presence on the island is receding, but Bond arrives with an urgent assignment: locate one of the world’s most valuable gemstones.
According to the publisher’s synopsis, the mission takes him from the mountains of Kandy to the ocean floor. What begins as a gemstone hunt develops into something with much greater stakes, forcing Bond to risk everything to survive.
The setting gives the announcement much of its appeal. A valuable stone provides a clear starting point, while the island’s changing political landscape offers possibilities for a more complicated adventure. How Jones uses that backdrop remains something to assess after publication.
Tiffany Case Returns and So Does a Diamonds Are Forever Connection
Bond will be joined by Tiffany Case, the diamond smuggler described by the publisher as his ally and lover.
In its October 5 announcement, Ian Fleming Publications explains that All In pays tribute to Diamonds Are Forever. Fleming’s fourth Bond novel was published in 1956, making 2026 its 70th anniversary.
That connection gives longtime readers a reason to revisit Fleming’s book before December. For newcomers, it offers useful background on Tiffany, although the announcement does not establish earlier reading as a requirement.
Who Is Dan Jones?
Jones is known for historical nonfiction including The Plantagenets, The Templars and Powers and Thrones, as well as the historical novel Essex Dogs. His official author biography also identifies him as the host of the This Is History podcast.
His background makes the period setting particularly interesting. The question for readers will be how he balances historical atmosphere with the pace and danger of a Bond story.
Why Is the Book Called All In?
The release celebrates the National Year of Reading and its Go All In campaign. The title also suits the premise: Bond faces a mission that demands an enormous gamble.
The main reasons to watch this release are its historical setting, Tiffany Case’s return and Jones’s move into James Bond fiction. Readers will be able to see how those elements come together when All In arrives on December 3.
