BritBox has released the official trailer and key art for Agatha Christie’s Tommy & Tuppence, a six-part mystery series starring Antonia Thomas, Josh Dylan, and Imelda Staunton. The adaptation will premiere September 15, 2026, on BritBox in the United States and Canada.
That date is especially appropriate for Christie fans: September 15 marks Agatha Christie’s birthday. BritBox will release the first two episodes on premiere day, followed by new episodes weekly.
The new trailer is more than another preview of an upcoming Christie adaptation. It offers the clearest look yet at a potentially transformative experiment: bringing one of Christie’s mysteries completely into the present day.
The Latest Tommy & Tuppence News
The biggest update is the arrival of the show’s official trailer, released by BritBox on August 26. The footage introduces Antonia Thomas as the energetic Tuppence and Josh Dylan as the more methodical Tommy, two former flames who reunite under dangerous circumstances.
According to the official BritBox description, Tommy and Tuppence cross paths again at an extravagant wedding. When one of the guests is murdered and an old friend becomes the primary suspect, they begin their own investigation.
The resulting case appears to bring the pair back together professionally and romantically. BritBox describes them as a detective duo who repeatedly fall in and out of love while solving mysteries.
The series will consist of six 45-minute episodes. The first two episodes will arrive on September 15, with the remaining four expected to be released weekly.

Why This Agatha Christie Adaptation Is Different
Most English-language Agatha Christie adaptations preserve the historical setting of the original books. Even when writers make significant changes to the characters or story, the mysteries usually remain surrounded by country houses, vintage cars, handwritten letters, and period costumes.
Tommy & Tuppence is taking a much bigger risk.
The series is being promoted as the first contemporary English-language television adaptation of Agatha Christie’s stories. Tommy and Tuppence will use smartphones, social media, internet searches, and other modern technology as they investigate crimes in present-day London.
That may prove to be the show’s most fascinating element. Many of Christie’s mysteries depend on limited communication, missing information, mistaken identities, and suspects who cannot easily verify one another’s stories. Smartphones and the internet could seemingly eliminate some of those obstacles.
Writer Phoebe Eclair-Powell has indicated that the creative team was careful not to let technology make the mysteries too easy. During a 2025 set visit, she told the Associated Press that the production did not want modern tools to simplify traditional puzzles such as locked-room mysteries.
That balance will be crucial. The series needs to feel contemporary without losing the carefully constructed clues and misdirection that make a Christie mystery satisfying.

Who Is Making Tommy & Tuppence?
Phoebe Eclair-Powell wrote the adaptation and serves as an executive producer. This is her first television drama series commission.
Fergus O’Brien, whose credits include Happy Valley and The Tourist, directed the first four episodes. Ellie Heydon directed the final two.
The series is produced by Lookout Point, part of BBC Studios, in association with Agatha Christie Limited. BBC Studios is handling international sales.

Poirot and Miss Marple remain Agatha Christie’s most famous detectives, but Tommy and Tuppence may be especially well suited to modern television.
Their stories already combine mystery, adventure, espionage, comedy, and romance. The books are driven by the chemistry between two very different people rather than by the brilliance of a single legendary detective.
That gives the series an opportunity to reach viewers who enjoy relationship-centered mysteries such as Only Murders in the Building, The Couple Next Door, or The Buccaneers, while still appealing to established Christie readers.
Modernizing Agatha Christie is undeniably a gamble. Moving the stories away from their original historical context could alienate viewers who primarily watch Christie adaptations for their period atmosphere.
Still, Tommy and Tuppence are arguably better candidates for this experiment than Poirot or Miss Marple. They have always been adventurous, playful, and willing to improvise.
