The great thing about lists is that there are always more out there. It takes about two to four weeks to read three big books. After that, you are once again looking for new books to read. Our previous list of historical fiction books was very popular and that is why we have returned with another list.
All of the novels recommended here are older novels and ones that you have definitely come across before. One of them is a classic novel and considered one of the best works of literature.
I recently got around to reading it and know that I had to share it with my fellow book lovers. You can see the full list below!
Three More Historical Fiction Books That You Need to Read
- One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez
- A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles
- The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah
One Hundred Years of Solitude
It took me a long time to get around and reading One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez. I was hooked on page one and loved this wonderful magical world that Márquez created. To this day, I am still angry for not reading this novel earlier.

After killing Prudencio Aguilar because of an argument, José Arcadio Buendía and his wife Úrsula Iguarán leave town to search for another place to live. Eventually, they settle near a riverbank and call their new home Macondo.
What follows is the story of seven generations of the Buendía family and the rise and fall of Macondo. The stories of the family go from happy to sad and happy again as the town they live in goes through changes, sweeping the family along as a result.
Every single page of this novel was perfect and I am glad that I did read this. It is easily one of the best books I read in 2025 and one I will revisit next year. in 1982, Gabriel García Márquez won the Nobel Prize for Literature because of this novel.
A Gentleman in Moscow
Trying to describe A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles to someone who has never read it is almost impossible. The plot of the novel doesn’t do it justice and only by reading it can you understand why this novel is beloved my millions of people.

Count Alexander Ilyich Rostov is sentenced to house arrest and must stay at Hotel Metropol. It is there he watches the world from his prison. The writing and the plot are brilliant and you’ll fall in love with the Count like many other readers. This is a novel that you have to read to understand the hype.
The Great Alone
If you are new to this website, then you probably don’t know how much of a fan I am of Kristin Hannah. All her works are must reads in my opinion and I was happy when she got the recognition she deserved after releasing The Women in 2025.

But we will be talking about one of her other novels that I loved and would recommend to anyone who loves beautiful writing and words that will make you feel every sentence in the book. The Great Alone is a novel about love and abuse and ultimately of resilience and showcases the brilliance of Hannah’s writing.
Conclusion
These are our picks for three more historical fiction books that you need to read. I loved these books and I can’t imagine a world where I didn’t read this novels. They changed how I viewed novels and have made me appreciate classic a lot more.
Novels like One Hundred Years of Solitude, A Gentleman in Moscow, and The Great Alone are must reads in my opinion. Anyone that loves reading will love these novels. While only one of them is truly considered a classic novel, I think all three are worth reading at least once.
