Everyone has a different method when it comes to determining the best books ever written. But one thing that can’t be argued is book sales. That is why we will be looking at books that sold over a hundred million copies and can’t be denied when it comes to impact.

While numbers aren’t everything, we can all agree that selling over a hundred millions copies is an impressive accomplishment. Very few books have gone on to accomplish this and if we had more data from a few centuries ago, this list might look a little different.

We still have a good estimate and the data we do have shows us that people have gravitated towards certain books for centuries. And we will be looking at those and seeing how many they have sold. You can see the full list below!

The best selling book of all time is A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens. It was first published in 1959 and has gone on to sell over 200 million copies since then. Dickens is considered one of the greatest authors to ever live and this novel has remained popular for over a century and a half.

Sales of The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry aren’t all clear but it has sold a lot. It is estimated that this book has sold over 200 million copies. The novel has been translated into over 505 languages and dialects and only trails the Bible in that accomplishment. I loved this novel and understand why many people have gravitated towards it since it was first published in 1943.

In third place is one of my favorite novels, The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. First published in Portuguese in 1988, the novel became an international success and went on to sell over 150 million copies worldwide. The premise and message are simple but what I love about this novel is that this novel resonates with everyone on a different level and gives each of us a different meaning.

If you were a child or teenager during the late 1990s or the 2000s, then you know how big Harry Potter was. The Harry Potter series has gone on to sell over 600 million copies total which is ridiculous to even think about.

The first novel in the series, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling has sold over 120 million copies since it was first published in 1997. The success of the books and the movies showcases how popular this series really was. And we are getting a Harry Potter TV show next year so the Harry Potter magic is still hanging around.
