We love reading old and new fantasy novels here at Books of Brilliance. And with a bunch of new epic fantasy novels being released, we decided to make a list of 7 fantasy novels to read in 2024. Keep reading to find out which books made the list!
If you are a fantasy love like us, then you have read many of the classics. But the genre is always growing and changing. Right now, romantasy, romance and fantasy novels, are having a moment. And even in the past decade, a bunch of amazing novels were released that need to be read by fans of fantasy books.
We chose some of our favorite reads including ones we discovered because of TV shows. While I am not the biggest fan of adaptations because they always get something wrong, I do enjoy discovering new books because of them. You can see the full list below!

Library at Mount Char by Scott Hawkins
A fantasy novel that has aged well is The Library at Mount Char by Scott Hawkins. The book is funny yet entertaining and different than your typical fantasy novels. Many fans of fantasy books might have never even heard of this book or may have ignored it because it didn’t make as much noise as other novels. But it is worth reading and a fantastic book that I will be revisiting.
The Witcher Series
A novel that I gave a chance after watching the show was The Witcher series by Andrzej Sapkowski. The story follows Geralt or Rivia as he tries to navigate a world thrown into war as he tries to protect what he holds dear to him. Geralt is a Witcher which is a person with superhuman abilities that were created to kill monsters. This series by Sapkowski is one of the most fun fantasy novels I have read and still think about to this day!
The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms
A fantasy author that you have to read is and her fantasy series The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms N.K. Jemisin. Yeine Darr is an outcast but when her mother dies under suspicious circumstances, she is summoned to the city of Sky. To everyone’s surprise, include Yeine’s, she is named an heiress to the king. But she has to fight for the throne of the Hundred Thousand Kingdoms as she is tossed into a powerful struggle that may lead to her doom.
Kings of the Wyld
A fantasy novel that will keep you entertained is Kings of the Wyld by Nicholas Eames. This is an adventure novel about a band of friends that are old and retired but must reunite to save one of the member’s daughter from certain death. The monsters and storytelling make this novel and series worth reading. And you will be laughing a lot more than you would have expected to.
Lies of Locke Lamora
A novel that everyone should give a try is Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch. Locke Lamora is an orphan on the island of Camorr and life is not easy. He however rises to become the leader of than band called the Gentleman Bastards, making him infamous on the island. The group steals from the rich, tricking them without anyone the wiser. But someone cunning has their eyes on Locke and his group and plans to destroy everything he holds dear.
American Gods
Maybe the most popular fantasy novel on the list, American Gods by Neil Gaiman is a book I recommend to everyone. I loved every second of this novel and recommend it to anyone that loves fantasy and mythology. Gaiman’s storytelling is unmatched and American Gods showcases his ability to write novels that has mainstream appeal.
Play of Shadows
A new fantasy novel that stood out to us is Play of Shadows by Sebastien de Castell. Damelas Chademantaigne needs to flee a judicial duel and choose a poor day to do just that. But Damelas needs to escape before it is too late and ends up talking his way into a company of actors. But when Damelas finds out that one of the most legendary heroes may be a traitor and a murderer. Now, it is up to Damelas to find out the real truth before he is killed by his enemies.
Conclusion
