Today, we will be reviewing Miss Marple: The Complete Short Stories by Agatha Christie, a compilation of short stories including Miss Marple. Keep reading to find out what we thought of these short stories and if you should read it next!
Miss Marple: The Complete Short Stories Summary
The Miss Marple short stories include shirt stories that could have been made into full length novels if Christie wanted to. There are a total of 20 stories and not all of them include Miss Marple, contrary to what the title indicates.
Unlike her novels, the plots of the short stories are easy to solve in a short span of time. From finding a hidden inheritance to finding out why a maid that Miss Marple knows was fired, these short stories are much less serious.
Maybe Christie would have made some of them to full length novels because she has done that before. But they weren’t but we are lucky to get even more Miss Marple stories, no matter the length.
Commentary
Miss Marple: The Complete Short Stories was first published in January 1, 1985. It includes 20 short stories, most of them including Miss Marple. Miss Marple made her first appearance in The Murder at the Vicarage in 1930 and was a fan favorite ever since.
If you are a fan of Miss Marple and her adventures, then I do recommend reading these collection of short stories. It feels like a farewell after reading all of Miss Marple’s books and it is a great sendoff. The great thing about books is that you can always reread them!
I enjoyed this collection and found that I had come across some of the short stories before. Agatha Christie is my favorite mystery author and even when she writes short stories, you will be hooked!
Conclusion
Saying goodbye to a character or series is never easy. But the books and the adventures will always stay with you. Miss Marple novels are always a delight to read and I will be rereading them again in the future knowing me. These short stories are great reads and if you like any Agatha Christie novel, then you’ll like these too. Happy reading!
