The Three Best Thrillers That You Must Read
- The Talented Mr. Ripley by Patricia Highsmith
- The Day of the Jackal by Frederick Forsyth
- The Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris
The Talented Mr. Ripley

A classic novel that we chose for this list is The Talented Mr. Ripley by Patricia Highsmith. It is a fun novel that follows the descent into madness of Ripley and what he will do to keep his new life going. Highsmith is a unique character that explores the true nature of a person and what people are capable of.
And while I did think about including Strangers on a Train by Highsmith on this list, I think this novel highlights all the best attributes of Highsmith’s beliefs. Not many authors can make a protagonist this appalling and yet the reader can’t take help but watch the mess that is about to unfold.
The Day of the Jackel
The Day of the Jackal by Frederick Forsyth is a brilliant novel that is a page turner! The novel tells you the plot of the novel at the beginning and yet, you keep reading, seeing how it all went wrong. The writing, suspense, vivid descriptions, make this a must read.
This novel might be my favorite spy novel of all time. Forsyth is able to keep us interested in a novel where the plot is spoiled in the first few pages. Yet you are hoping that maybe you were lied to because you want it to succeed. That takes a lot of talent and courage as a writer because the plot twist is already spoiled and yet he is able to keep us hooked until the last page.
The Silence of the Lambs

Is there a better thriller novel than The Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris? When you are reading the novel, it doesn’t feel like there is. What makes this novel interesting is that it isn’t even the first novel in the Hannibal series.
It is easily the best book in the series even though Red Dragon is also a great novel. The main distinction is that in The Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal Lector is more involved and the driving force in the novel. His character is the perfect villian with the right amount of charm that few villians rarely have.
Conclusion
These are the three best thriller books that you need to read once in your life. Few novels can compare to these three books on the list. The thriller genre is filled with many new and old classics but these three are the ones we ended up choosing as the three must read thrillers of all time.

YES, I did read Silence of the Lambs, TWICE, before I saw the movie; couldn’t the movie show how the Negro orderlies handle Lecter when they come into his cell? They DO NOT turn their backs on him, 3 go into his cell, one is holding a steel rod, ready to hit him in case …
