After reviewing the first book in the Fallen Gods series, we will now be reviewing the second book in the trilogy, Sunbringer by Hannah Kaner. Keep reading to find out what we thought of this fantasy novel and if you should read it!
The fantasy genre is always evolving and I like to see what new fantasy novels are out there. Godkiller, the first novel in the series was an enjoyable read and I knew I had to read the second book and finally got around to it.
In the sequel to Godkiller, we find out that Kissen lived, something that was implied at the end of the first book. Kissen finds out that Hseth is going to return very soon and that he will be bringing war to Kissen’s home unless she stops it.
Inara and Skedi, the god of white lies try to find out more about the small god as they prepare for King Arren’s invasion. Elogast tries to rile up the people as he seeks revenge against Arren, leading to an epic battle that will determine the future of Middren.
Book two continues the epic adventures and is a good sequel but I do think Godkiller was the better novel of the two. The world building isn’t as good as the first book and not enough new elements were introduced. I expected more to happen with Arren’s new status as Sunbringer but that doesn’t happen.
The novel focuses too much on Kissen’s adventures and it could have been shortened because it takes away from the best parts of the book.
Kaner focuses too much on setting up the plot for book three that book two feels like a filler at times. From the get-go, we know what the end of the book will look like. Fantasy novels often like to tell what will happen and it is one of the few things I am not the biggest fan of.
Still, I enjoyed a lot of the novel and will be checking out the final book in the trilogy Faithbreaker. For anyone that read the first book, this is worth reading and will set up a great conclusion. And while I do think the second book will be the weakest, it does connect the trilogy and shouldn’t be skipped. Happy reading!
