Faithbreaker Summary
The fire god Hseth has been reborn as a war-hungry god that is leaving destruction behind everywhere. To stop Hseth, Kissen, Elo, Inara, and Arren must work together before it is too late.
Elo returns to his position of leading Arren’s army against a foe that won’t stop until Middren is conquered. But first, they must settle aside their differences and their feelings if they are to stand a chance.
Kissen and Inara journey with, Inara’s mother Lessa on her ship to seek aid. But the group learns that foreign nations are hesitant to join the war. And that treachery is around every corner.
In order to defeat Hseth, who has returned from the dead even stronger, both groups have to make amends and heal old wounds. But that is easier said then done. It all comes down to one final battle which will determine the future of Middren and all the gods.
Commentary
Faithbreaker was released on April 1st, 2025 and is an epic conclusion to the fantastic fantasy trilogy Fallen Gods. Over the past couple of years, I have seen this series get a lot more recognition and its own display sections in bookstores.
It took me a while to get into this novel because the first half was slow. And I understand why but it just led to me not reading as much as I normally would have. The second half of the book was a lot more enjoyable and I was able to read that twice as fast as the first half.
After the first two novels, it is surprising to see Arren get a redemption arc. It makes sense for a multitude of reasons but the ending becomes a bit more predictable as a result. There were a few moments that felt like they were the right endings and did take away from the experience.
Overall, the ending itself was good and I did like how it was wrapped up. While I was reading this novel, I remember thinking that this is how an author is supposed to write romance scenes. After reading male authors take a swing at it and miss, it was nice to see an author that understands how to write romance scenes the right way.
Conclusion
When I read the first novel, Godkiller, I knew I had found a fantastic fantasy novel. And after reading the third and final book in the trilogy, I am glad that I give this series a chance. The concepts and characters in this trilogy made it an enjoyable experience.
Kissen is a fun and witty character that will keep you laughing. She is memorable and Kaner does justice to her in the final book. I recommend this novel and trilogy to any fantasy fan that loves a good protagonist that they can get behind. Happy reading!
