WNBA player Caitlin Clark is giving out assists on and off the court with her latest move.
Scholastic will be donating 22,000 new books to Clark’s Caitlin Clark Foundation, who will give them out to kids that can’t easily access them. The focus is on new books which will get them interested in reading.
The foundation will be giving out books to pre-kindergarteners all the way to the eighth grade. Books will be distributed to elementary schools, middle schools, children’s hospitals and other non-profit organizations in Iowa, Clark’s home state, and Indiana, where she plays in the WNBA.
“Reading and education have always been hugely important in my life,” Clark said in the statement.
“I remember picking out the books from the Scholastic flyer and how empowering that was for me as a child, and how motivated I was to read. I want to help kids have the same experience, to develop their reading skills and open their imaginations to dream big.”
Clark is the first WNBA player to partner with Scholastic to encourage kids to read. One way to get younger kids to read is to have role models that also read and encourage them to do so. And Clark is setting a great example for millions of kids as well as her peers.
