There are a ton of amazing sci-fi stories to read and many of them go undiscovered. In Writers of the Future Vol 40, you get to read some of the best sci-fi and fantasy short stories that I have come across. And in this book, L. Ron Hubbard picks contest winners for the 40th edition.
If you love sci-fi and fantasy novels but don’t want to read long books, then Writers of the Future Volume 40 might be just for you. There are tons of amazing short sci-fi stories that you have to read. And after reading the first story, The Edge of Where My Light is Cast, I knew I was in for a treat.
All the winners in this book were chosen after a lot of consideration and it shows in the stories that ended up making the book. The only thing I hated was that many of these stories ended too soon! If you are anything like me, then you will also look up the stories and authors afterwards. But you won’t find these stories anywhere else.
As a big sci-fi and fantasy fan, I enjoyed reading this book and all these wonderful sci-fi stories by authors that have yet to make a name for themselves. Hopefully this book does because these ideas and stories need to be expanded upon. Too often, we gravitate towards a New York Times bestselling author but many authors never reach achieve that and are still just as talented.
Along with the short stories, there are various illustrations throughout the book. They were also selected. The winners of both the stories and the illustrations were selected by anonymous judges and professionals are banned from entering to level the plane field.
Stories like Nonzero and Squiddy showcase the high quality of this contest. Each story in this book is incredible and to top it off, there is also writing advice throughout the book. And you can’t find these stories anywhere else. Discover new authors and lose yourself in amazing short stories that will make you think long after you are done reading them.
Conclusion
Like any avid reader, I am always looking for great novels to read. And this was a good break from my normal routine and reading short stories that I wished were a lot longer. The winners selected in this book are all incredible writers and I will be looking out for other works by them in the near future. Happy reading!
