Just like comic books, people of all ages read manga in Japan and all over the world. Manga has seen a rise in popularity due to anime which are usually adaptations of manga but not always. As anime has become more popular in the Western World, Manga has also benefitted from that exposure.

Blue Lock is the Best Selling Manga of 2023
Who would have guessed that the best selling manga of 2023 would be Blue Lock, a sports manga about soccer? In 2023, Blue lock sold over 10 million copies, almost 2 million more than Jujutsu Kaisen, which came in second place.
A big reason that Blue Lock came in first place is due to the popularity of the anime. The manga follows Isagi Yoichi, a talented soccer player, who is selected to try out and join a training camp known as Blue Lock. We may see Blue Lock top the list again as it has another season releasing soon as well as an anime movie.
Jujutsu Kaisen
In second place was Jujutsu Kaisen, my former best selling manga from last year. It sold over 8 and a half million copies in 2023 alone. That number is impressive and could have been even higher if the second anime season wasn’t released at the end of the year.
Will it surpass Blue Lock in 2024? It was the best selling manga in January 2024 and it will benefit from the anime airing recently. But it may come down to when the second season of Blue Lock is released.
One Piece
In third best selling manga of 2023 was One Piece with over 7 million copies sold. This is the most impressive manga on the list as it only had 3 new volumes release in 2023. First released in 1997, it has garnered a loyal fanbase that has made it the best selling manga of all time.
Oshi no Ko
In Fourth Place is Oshi no Ko, a manga about two siblings who are reborn into a cruel world and have only each to trust if they want to survive. This manga sold over 5.4 million copies in 2023.
Coming in Fifth Place is Chainsaw Man which also sold over 5 million copies. The anime helped introduce Chainsaw man to man new audience and helped the manga make the top ten best selling list for the second straight year. And yees, a protagonist with a chainsaw for a head was the fifth best selling manga of 2023.
