Seeing your favorite books being adapted into TV shows is a great feeling. And sometimes, the shows surpass the novels. That is why we will be looking at five great fantasy TV shows adapted from books!
Adapting fantasy books to TV shows is a difficult task. There is a lot of world building required and that takes good writing and patience. But when done right, the rest of the show can follow suit. Some shows have done a great job and this is a big reason why fans loved the shows.
The future of fantasy TV Shows looks bright and we are all for it. Most of the shows on this list are recent and the oldest show has led to more fantasy shows getting adapted into TV Shows. Yes, you probably guessed that it was Game of Thrones. That TV show has done a lot for the fantasy genre and the spinoff from that show alone can make this list easily.
But we will be looking at other works. As a fan of fantasy novels, I am always excited to see what the TV shows will add to some of my favorite works of fiction. You can see the full list below!
Fantasy TV Shows Adapted From Books
Game of Thrones

Before Game of Thrones, there wasn’t a fantasy novel or series adapted into a great TV show. Partly because it is an expensive endeavor. Some Game of Throne episodes cost over a million dollars to film. The popularity of the show meant that HBO was making much more and made sure to give the audience episodes they wouldn’t be able to take their eyes off.
The Witcher

I remember watching the first episode of The Witcher and falling in love right away. Everything about the show was magical and there was nothing like this show anywhere. Netflix has an instant hit and helped push fantasy novels to the forefront of getting made into TV Shows.
Game of Thrones showed the potential while The Witcher proved that it wasn’t a fluke. To many western audiences, The Witcher was fresh and new. After watching the first season. I binge read the novels and couldn’t wait for the next season. And while Netflix did ultimately ruin The Witcher, it is still one of the best fantasy TV shows out there.
Shadow and Bone

When Shadow and Bone aired, I was skeptical about the show being good. I just didn’t have much faith and I was glad I was wrong. Season one had some flaws but the show was great overall. Season two felt better from a production and acting standpoint and I was excited about the future of the show. But alas, that wasn’t meant to be. Netflix cancelled the show, reminding us how cruel the world truly is.
Conclusion
These are the five great fantasy Tv shows adapted from books. As you probably noticed, many of them are more recent, showcasing the trend that has taken over television. What other great fantasy TV shows should have made the list? Let us know in the comments below!
