Netflex Just Cancelled Shadow and Bone Series After Two Seasons

Fans of Leigh Bardugo’s Shadow and Bone series are angry after Netlfix aannounced that they won’t be renewing the show after two seasons.

Many expected the show to build the Grishaverse but it wasn’t meant to be. This is shocking news that caught fans and the author herself by surprise. She was “heartbroken and deeply dissapointed.”

Netflix Cancels Shadow and Bone Show

“Friends, by now you’ve probably heard that there will be no season 3 for Shadow and Bone and no Six of Crows spinoff,” she wrote on an Instagram post. “The news hit me hard. I’m heartbroken and deeply disappointed, but I’m also trying to hold onto my very real gratitude. Most authors never get to see their work adapted. Many who do end up regretting the experience. I’m one of the lucky few who can look at an adaptation with pride and tremendous joy.”

The show aired in April 2021 and adapted The Shadow and Bone trilogy as well as her Six of Crows duology. The first season left a lot to be desired but the second season showed signs of a bright future. The best thing about the show had to be the talented cast.

It is one of many shows that was axed by Netflix recently. The original plan was to build out the Grishaverse as a script was finished for a spinoff. There hasn’t been a reason given for axing the show. The most likely scenario is that the show didn’t do as well as expected and wasn’t giving them the return on investment as they would have liked.

In this day and age, being a fan of TV shows is not easy. Many shows do not get the proper ending and are axed out of the blue. Just like Bardugo, we are disappointed with this news and we can only imagine how many people are furious with the streaming service.
