Yes, it was! Another one is ‘Salem’s Lot! At least it was back in 1972-74 when it came out. I was afraid to go to sleep. Recently bought the paperback and read it again. (Have been in the mood for scary stuff for a while now.) Made me a little nervous, but that was all. I just kept wishing it wasn’t so long! The movie with James Mason was really scary I thought. And—-just thought of this one!—-The Omen! I think that one was/is right up there with The Exorcist. The movie, too.
