Nobody knows how to pull on your heartstrings like James McBride. His novel The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store follows a grocery store and the bond between a Jewish and a Black family who go to great lengths to protect a child from harm.

Our Share of Night

If you love horror novels, then Our Share of Night is a must read. The novel takes place across Argentina and follows a cult that summons so-called gods using mediums. Juan wants to protect his son Gaspar from this life no matter the cost.

Fourth Wing

While The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store might be one of the best novels of 2023, Fourth Wing might be the most popular. Rebecca Yarros’s romance fantasy novel took the literary world by storm and topped the charts for months. And after reading it, I can see why. It reminds me of The Hunger Games but with dragons and if that doesn’t get you to read it, nothing will.

Yellowface

A novel that had I loved a lot was R. F. Kuang’s Yellowface. It follows two friends, one white named June, one Asian named Athena, and plagiarism. When Athena passes away one night, June steals her manuscript and edits and publishes the novel as her own. What follows is the aftermath as June tries to hide her secret as she navigates the publishing world.
