Author George R.R. Martin admitted that he likes some characters from Game of Thrones House of the Dragon over the ones that he wrote in his books.
Martin is best known for his A Song of Ice and Fire fantasy series as well as A Game of Thrones TV show. He has written thousands of pages and his characters are some of the best written. But even he admits that he can overlook some of them. That is no surprise considering he has dozens of characters in his novels.
George R.R. Martin Likes Some Characters from the Shows More Than His Books
The TV shows have focuses on some characters that Martin didn’t as much. Some characters that Martin believes were better in the TB Shows are Shae, Osha, and Viserys. Martin says “TV show Shae really has feelings for Tyrion, so it’s a whole different dynamic.”
Even the greatest authors sometimes overlook something. For Martin, it was Shae’s feelings for Tyrion. It isn’t often when we say a character on a TV show was better than the books. But A Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon build out their characters and makes the audience understand the driving force of the characters and why things happened the way they did.
Martin Praises House of the Dragon Actors
Few authors would ever admit that a TV show one-upped them when it came to their own characters. But Martin is a big fan and appreciates what others bring to the table. He was praising the actors when House of the Dragon was airing. He is a big fan and enjoys seeing how others approach his novels.
