11 Must Read Books of All Time

This is a continuing series so that means many must read books have already made our list. You can see that list here. The books that made this list are great novels that aren’t the first couple of novels that people think of must reads. But once you read these novels, you will see why they are considered must reads.

Books You Must Read!

The first novel on the list is the dystopian novel Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel. It is considered one of the best dystopian novels for good reason. Mandel is an excellent storyteller and her novels are original and have a bunch of twists that will keep you reading. This is a recent novel and one that I think deserves to be considered as one of the best novels of the 2010’s.

Another surprise pick by us on this list is The Godfather by Mario Puzo. If you have watched the movie, then you know the plot and yes, the movie is better but not by a lot. Puzo’s writing makes this novel come to life. His novel was turned into one of if not the best movie of all time and a lot of that is because of the source material. Even If you end up choosing the movie over the novel, you will still enjoy a novel that gets overshadowed because the movie overachieved.

In Cold Blood by Truman Capote is a true crime book that changed the book world. This is considered the first non-fiction novel (even though it technically was not) and part of that is the success of the book. I do have to point out that there are elements of this book that are considered fiction which is why it is labeled as a non-fiction novel. Nonetheless, it is an amazingly well-written novel that should be read if you love to read.

Conclusion

That is all for our list of the 11 must read books of all time. How many of these books have you read? Let us know in the comments below!

Station Eleven isn’t dystopian. It’s post-apocalyptic, but while those two sub-genres often overlap, they’re not the same thing and Station Eleven has almost no dystopian elements, only post apocalyptic ones.

Also, it’s far from the best book in either of those sub-genres, and really doesn’t belong on this list in my opinion. It’s not even Mendel’s best book, much less a “Must read.”

Not to mention dostoevskys classic the brothers karsmaxov is tragic. The first philosophic writer to integrate three characters…one the aesthetic, one the intellectual, and one the spiritual…the base of all classics from Joseph Conrad’s through Hesse, through almost every writer in the first half of the 20th century…..the heat Gatsby?
