Daniel Radcliffe Was ‘Worried’ When J.K. Rowling Thought About Writing Another Harry Potter Book

Harry Potter is synonymous with Daniel Radcliffe and it is who comes to when you think of the actor. He spent 10 years as the protagonist in the Harry Potter franchise and we see him grow up on screen. But the idea of continuing the role for even longer scared Radcliffe.

Daniel Radcliffe was Worried About J.K Rowling Writing Another Harry Potter Book

While promoting the final Harry Potter film, J.R. Rowling has an interview with Oprah. In this interview, Rowling said she may write another Harry Potter book. When Radcliffe saw the interview, he was caught off guard. 

“I was worried! I texted her,” Radcliffe said. “I said, ‘Look, is this true? Are you writing another book?!’”

“I think Jo is being very kind to a lot of people by giving them that little bit of hope and me that mild heart attack,” Radcliffe said. “But I’ve been doing this for 10 years. A team of surgeons would be needed to reapply my jaw to my face if she did this.”

“Better men than me have changed their mind.”

Playing the same character for ten years for a movie franchise is very rare. But Harry Potter was able to have most of their actors return. But don’t expect Radcliffe to return for another Potter movie.

“I would be incredibly surprised but, you know, the other thing is, people have been saying, ‘If she did [write more books], would you be in [the films]?’ And at this point in time, ‘No’ is the answer,” Radcliffe said. “I’ve done it for 10 years and that’s a long time. But I’m also being careful to qualify that with, ‘Better men than me have changed their mind.’”

Rowling calmed Harry by telling him there won’t be any more books about Harry Potter. 

“She wrote back that she was so pleased with my performance in Harry Potter 7: Part 1 that as a reward, she promised to never write another book about Harry,” Radcliffe said.

Harry Potter TV Show

While Rowling might not be writing a new Harry Potter book, a Harry Potter TV show is in the works. Daniel Radcliffe will not be reprising his role as Harry Potter. But you never know if he has a cameo in the TV show.

Max is already working on the TV show and has gotten Rowling’s approval. While Radcliffe will not be in the show as far as we know, there will be a familiar face. Radcliffe’s costar Tom Felton will be playing Draco Malfoy father, Lucius in the show. He previously played Draco in the Harry Potter movies.

Conclusion

Would you have wanted another Harry Potter book? Playing one character for a decade is rarely done and for good reason. We can’t blame Radcliffe for worrying when he heard there might be another book. He has moved on from the Harry Potter world and will be watching a new Harry Potter like the rest of us.
