January was a good month as I was able to read a variety of different books. And I enjoyed all of them. The hard part is finding good books to read but lately that hasn’t been the case. Keep reading to find out what books I read in January 2023.
Last month, I read four books and was lucky to choose books tha were hard to put down. One of my favorite reads had to be Carrion Comfort by Dan Simmons and I can’t believe I never came across this book before! The novel is long and feels like an action movie. If you like the supernatural and a good mystery, the this novel is for you.
Books I Read in January 2023
- Carrion Comfort by Dan Simmons
- Death ar La Fenice by Donna Leon
- The Talented Mr. Ripley by Patricia Highsmith
- I’m Glad my Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy
The second book that I read was Death at La Fenice by Donna Leon and it is a whodunnit novel that takes place in Italy. It is a short novel but it doesn’t feel it because of how good the writing is. Leon knows how to set the scene and I will be looking forward to reading more books written by her.

I don’t read autobiographies often but sometimes, a book comes along that I can’t ignore. I’m Glad my Momhttps://amzn.to/3JM0cAF Died by Jennette McCurdy was one of those books and it lived up to the hype. The former child actress opens about her struggles with fame, an eating disorder and her complicated relationship with her mother.
Lastly, I read The Talented Mr. Ripley by Patricia Highsmith and even though it was written in 1955, the novel has aged well. Tom Ripley is a con artist that wants to leave the easy life. But he is down on his luck until he meets the father of an acquaintance who wants to pay him to convince his son to return from Italy. That starts Ripley’s start to Ripley’s biggest con job and what he will do to keep his new life.
Conclusion
This feels like a good start to the year. Hopefully I can continue to find books that I enjoy and read four to five books per month for the rest of the year. Things never go as planned but I’ll try to make this one happen. Happy reading!
