Mindy Kaling’s Path to Her Own Publishing Company
But before we dive into that, this is a perfect time to discuss how Kaling came to start her own publishing company. Her parents didn’t let her partake in most activities which led to her turning to books.

I wasn’t allowed to watch TV or play video games, and I was not particularly good at musical instruments or sports,” Kaling says. “Reading was my only pastime.”
That also inspired her to be a writer. She has written a book and was one of the writers for The Office. Before we get into Kaling’s picks, we shall look at her book advice.
“Never start reading at 10 p.m., or you won’t go to bed until 2 a.m. Great books are more addictive than anything.” Also, she advises, choose paperback whenever possible: “Hardcovers are too poke-y!”
