Netflix announced today that Henry Cavill will not be returning for the fourth season of the Witcher. Find out what that means for the show and who is replacing Cavill.
Henry Cavill is Leaving The Witcher
Recently, The Witcher has been in the spotlight for the wrong reasons. Last week, one of the former writers said that the show has some writers that aren’t a fan of the source material or the video games. And now, Cavill is leaving the show. This is what Cavill had to say about his departure.
“My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4,” Cavill said. “In my stead, the fantastic Mr Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf. As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men. Liam, good sir, this character has such a wonderful depth to him, enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find.”
Liam Hemsworth is Replacing Cavill as Geralt the Witcher
As you read, Liam Hemsworth will be replacing Cavill on season four and all the seasons going forward. This news came out of nowhere and many fans were devastated. Cavill has been the perfect Geralt of Rivia and will not be replaced easily. The small details that Cavill brings to the character make him who he is and the show is going to suffer as a result.
Season three is going to air in the summer of 2023 and that is the last time we will see Cavill play Geralt. It has leaked that the upcoming season is going to be controversial and if you have read the books, then you know why. Ciri gets involved with the wrong bunch of people and makes a lot of controversial choices. It will be interesting to see what the show chooses to keep and what they choose to change.
Some Writers Aren’t Fans of the Source Material
Knowing that some of the writers aren’t fans of the source material makes me believe that it will deviate a lot from the show. Season two wasn’t part of the source material and was randomly added even though there was a lot of stuff to pull out from the source material. The recent news about some of the writers not being fans of the books explains a lot and makes me worried about the future of the show.
Now, Cavill’s Geralt won’t be there to draw fans of his acting. He made the show what it is and without him, the show may suffer as a result. Only time will tell but The Witcher looks like a mess right now. Netflix needs to step in and make the changes necessary or the show won’t be airing for long.
