Book banning has gotten out of hand recently and actor and TV host LeVar Burton let his feelings about the topic be known.
While appearing at Rose City Comic Con in Portland Oregon, Burton was asked by a fan what he thought of the book banning. Here is what he said.
“I’ve been very, very, very clear about my position. And I’ve been very vocal. Read the banned books, ya’ll. If they don’t want you to read it, there’s a reason why. So read the books they don’t want you to read. And in terms of the conversation … I’ll go ahead and be generous and call it a conversation … the conversation that we’re having around school curriculum and what is erroneously being referred to as critical race theory, you outta be ashamed of yourself. Not because your position is indicative of how much of a dirtbag you are—and it is—but that’s not the reason you should be ashamed of yourself. You should be ashamed of yourself for not respecting your children enough to understand basic human values.”LeVar Burton
We couldn’t have said it better ourselves. Not only are people making it difficult for their children to learn all history instead of selective history, but the underlying theme of racism cannot be ignored.
Many organizations and people are fighting back and the books are being made available at various locations such as public libraries and bookstores . While some schools will unfortunately be unable to provide certain books, students still have access to them which is great.
