Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris

The Silence of the Lambs
The Silence of the Lambs

Special Agent Clarice Starling is a student but has been temporarily been upgraded to an FBI agent. She is assigned the fun job of interviewing Hannibal Lecter, the serial killer who has a sweet tooth for human flesh. By taking up the job, Starling may jeopardize her career by not passing the upcoming exams. And she also has to get information from Lecter about Buffalo Bill before he kills again.

As you can imagine, that is a lot of responsibility on the shoulders of one person. The fact that the best hope of catching a dangerous serial killer is a student and temporary agent is kinda sad. Harris does a great job of making Starling feel relatable and he doesn’t sugarcoat the fact that the agency is flawed and sexist. Lecter may be the star of the novel but Starling is also a gem and deserves to be in the converstation as a great protagonist and is a big reason on making the book recommendations list!

The novel was written in 1949 yet when we found out that the government was secretly spying on us last decade, we automatically thought about what Orwell’s dystopian novel. Orwell wrote the novel after seeing what was happening in Stalinist Russia yet here we are today where some of the novel’s plot can be applied to various countries all over the world.

The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie

The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie book review

Logan Ninefingers fights off a bunch of supernatural enemies while barely clinging onto life. “Still alive” he mutters to himself in disbelief. His friends are most likely dead and Logan has to get away from the Shanti before they track him down. But where does he go from here?

Abercrombie’s novel is a dark and gritty midieval adventure that reminds me of The Lord of the Rings. It involves a bunch of great and fascinating protagonists, magic and sword fighting, and a lot of killing. But the grittiness is balanced with a lot of timely humor. This is an adventure that you will be happy you tagged along for and the last book on our book recommendations list for this month. Happy reading!

Conclusion

That is the book recommendations for the. month of June. One of these novels will keep you busy reading and look out for even more book recommendations in the future. Happy reading til then!
