George R. R. Martin Says the Book Ending Will Be Different Than the Show

There is good news for fans of Game of Thrones TV series is that the ending for the HBO TV show won’t be the same ending for the novels.

Book Ending Will Be Different

According to George R. R. Martin, the unreleased books will be different than the shows. Since most people hated the ending, this makes a lot of sense. The critically-acclaimed TV show ended before the completion of the A Song of Ice and Fire series and didn’t have source material to work with. Now, Martin will correct the mistakes of the show.

“One thing I can say, in general enough terms that I will not be spoiling anything: not all of the characters who survived until the end of GAME OF THRONES will survive until the end of A SONG OF ICE & FIRE, and not all of the characters who died on GAME OF THRONES will die in A SONG OF ICE & FIRE. (Some will, sure. Of course. Maybe most. But definitely not all) ((Of course, I could change my mind again next week, with the next chapter I write. That’s gardening.”

As you can see, Martin is going to write a different story than what we saw in the show. Interestingly enough, while seasons 7 and 8 were rushed, Martin did have little input and he did provide the ending for the show. However, writers often write and rewrite scenes and that is why Martin compares his writing process to gardening.

The series is still ongoing and it may be a long time until we get the last two books in the series. However, knowing that the books will have a better ending than the show is good news.
