Florida continues its battle against books and information by seeking proposals from textbook companies to provide social studies books to schools that do not include topics such as critical race theory and social justice.
Florida Puts Restrictions on Social Studies Books
Up until June 10th, the Florida Department of Education will be accepting bids from companies to provide social studies books for the next five years starting in 2023. The department released a 29-page document on its website so to receive the funds… I mean lists the criteria of what they want included in the books and what not to include.
Some of the stuff that is going to taken out is “Critical race theory, social justice, culturally responsive teaching, social and emotional learning, and any other unsolicited theories that may lead to student indoctrination are prohibited,” according to the document listed on the website.
This begs the question why are students going to schools if they aren’t being educated properly? This feels cult like and that summarizes Florida pretty well. Now, everyone living in Florida has to play along with this until the courts step in but considering how conservative the Supreme Court is, that is unlikely to happen.
DeSantis’ Battle Against Critical Race Theory
What to Make of This
Expect more stuff to be banned and filtered in the coming months. Why stop when there is nobody preventing you from doing whatever you want. Until DeSantis leaves, this is going to be the norm. A great distraction from doing his actual job.
The war on critical race theory has become the focus of Republicans and conservatives along with banning books. While this is going to reshape the education and affect the lives of millions of people, politicians want to rile up their base and get them to feel threatened and make them consider any opposition as a threat to their livelihood.
