Spoiler-free: This article does not discuss the ending of Onyx Storm.
The latest Fourth Wing news brings a major development for readers waiting to see Basgiath War College on screen. Esther McGregor and Emilio Sakraya have reportedly been cast as Violet Sorrengail and Xaden Riorson in Prime Video’s adaptation of Rebecca Yarros’s bestselling fantasy novel.
The casting report arrives alongside renewed interest in the next Empyrean novel, the recently released Threshing Day, and a graphic novel adaptation scheduled for 2027. These are separate projects, and a television update does not mean Book 4 has a release date.
Who Will Play Violet and Xaden?
According to Deadline’s October 15 casting report, McGregor will play Violet, while Sakraya will portray Xaden. Amazon declined to comment on the casting, so the roles should currently be described as reported rather than officially announced by the studio.
McGregor’s credits include We Were Liars and Babygirl. Sakraya has appeared in Warrior Nun and Those About to Die.
For readers, these are the two performances that will help define the adaptation. Violet’s determination and resourcefulness drive the novel, while her developing relationship with Xaden gives its dangerous military setting much of its emotional tension.
Casting gives fans something concrete to discuss, but the performances themselves will matter far more than how closely publicity photographs resemble individual readers’ imagined versions of the characters.
What Is Official About the Fourth Wing TV Show?
Amazon has confirmed that Prime Video ordered a Fourth Wing series. Its official description follows Violet as her mother forces her into Basgiath War College, where candidates compete to become dragon riders.
That premise preserves the central pressure of the first novel: Violet must adapt to a life she did not choose in an institution where surviving is an achievement in itself.
The reported casting is a further development for the screen project. However, the sources reviewed for this article do not announce a premiere date. Readers should therefore avoid treating a predicted release year as a confirmed streaming schedule.
Does Fourth Wing Book 4 Have a Release Date?
As of October 15, no official public title or release date for the fourth main Empyrean novel was identified in the announcements reviewed for this article.
There is a more recent tease, however. An October 13 report from Winter Is Coming, citing footage from Yarros’s Denver event, says the author already knows the title. Knowing a title privately is different from revealing it publicly, and the report did not provide a release date.
The same coverage reports that Yarros said Threshing Day contains clues relevant to Book 4, while explaining that readers who skip the collection will encounter its reveals in the main novel.

Threshing Day Is Available, but It Is Not Book 4
Threshing Day was released September 29, 2026. It is a companion story collection rather than the fourth novel continuing the main storyline.
Yarros’s official book page describes thirteen stories and lists the book as available now. Its focus gives readers another way to explore the connections between riders and dragons while waiting for the next main installment.
The useful distinction is between extra context and required preparation. A collection can reward close reading without becoming an additional numbered volume that readers must finish to follow the central story.

The Fourth Wing Graphic Novel Has a Confirmed Date
There is a firm date for another return to this world: Fourth Wing Graphic Novel: Vol. 1 is scheduled for April 6, 2027.
Yarros’s official upcoming-books page confirms the date and says she is adapting the novel herself.
This is a visual adaptation of the first book, rather than a sequel to Onyx Storm. Its release date should not be confused with either Book 4 or the Prime Video series.
What Should Readers Watch for Next?
The next useful milestones are official studio confirmation of the reported casting, additional television announcements, and a public title or publication date for Book 4.
For now, readers have a newly reported Violet and Xaden, an available companion collection, and a dated graphic novel to look forward to. The central sequel remains a separate announcement worth waiting for.
