Fantasy readers finally have the update they have been waiting years for. Bestselling author Sarah J. Maas has officially confirmed that two brand-new novels in the massively popular A Court of Thorns and Roses series are on the way.
According to Bloomsbury Publishing, the sixth ACOTAR novel is scheduled for release on October 27, 2026, while the seventh installment will arrive shortly after on January 12, 2027. The announcement marks the first major update for the series since A Court of Silver Flames was published back in 2021.
The news immediately sent excitement through the fantasy and romantasy communities online, where readers have spent years speculating about when Maas would finally return to Prythian.
Sarah J. Maas Opens Up About the Delay
Maas shared more details about the upcoming books during an appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast. Speaking candidly about the lengthy gap between releases, the author explained that she needed time to rediscover the right creative direction for the story.
“It took me a while to find the right story and find the right head space,” Maas said. “And then what poured out of me was this, and it poured out very quickly.”
That statement alone has fueled even more anticipation among longtime fans, many of whom have been eagerly waiting for answers about the future of beloved characters and unresolved storylines from A Court of Silver Flames.
The ACOTAR Phenomenon Continues to Grow
The A Court of Thorns and Roses series first debuted in May 2015 and quickly evolved into one of the biggest fantasy franchises of the last decade. Combining romance, political intrigue, magical worlds, and emotionally driven storytelling, the books helped push the romantasy genre into mainstream popularity.
Since its debut, the ACOTAR series has sold more than 13 million copies worldwide. Meanwhile, Maas herself has sold over 75 million books across all of her series, cementing her status as one of the most commercially successful fantasy authors working today.
Outside of ACOTAR, Maas is also widely known for her bestselling Throne of Glass series and Crescent City series, both of which have built massive fanbases of their own.
Why the New ACOTAR Books Could Be Massive Bestsellers
Industry experts already expect the upcoming novels to dominate bestseller lists upon release. When A Court of Silver Flames launched in 2021, the novel became an instant hit and reportedly contributed to a major boost in overall publishing sales during its release week.
The romantasy genre itself has exploded in recent years, especially on platforms like BookTok, where Maas remains one of the most recommended fantasy authors. Her books consistently trend across social media thanks to passionate fan discussions, theories, artwork, and rereads.
Because of that momentum, many analysts believe the next ACOTAR installment could sell hundreds of thousands of copies within its first week alone.
What About the ACOTAR TV Adaptation?
Despite the series’ enormous popularity, there is still no official screen adaptation currently in development.
In 2023, Hulu officially dropped plans for an ACOTAR television adaptation that had originally been announced years earlier. Since then, no studio or streaming platform has publicly confirmed a new attempt to bring the fantasy series to television or film.
However, with two new books now officially on the release calendar, interest in adapting the series could easily reignite. The continued success of fantasy television and the rising popularity of romantasy stories may make ACOTAR an even more attractive property for studios in the near future.
Fans Are Already Counting Down the Days
For many readers, the announcement feels like the beginning of a new era for the ACOTAR universe. After years of theories, rumors, and speculation, fans finally have confirmed release dates and the promise of more stories set in one of fantasy’s most beloved worlds.
With anticipation already building across social media, the countdown to the next ACOTAR book has officially begun.
