The Midnight Library by Matt Haig

The Midnight Library is a beautiful story about coming to terms with your choices. It came out in 2022 and made several end-of-year lists for good reason. It is about regrets and how small choices can have a big impact on your life. The protagonist gets to live various lives, trying to find the one that will truly make her happy.
I loved the mssage of this novel and it is one that many people need to be reminded of. Haig’s novels are powerful and are helpful in healing and becoming the best versions of yourself. Novels like these are good reminders to look at the positive things in life instead of seeing the cup as half empty.
Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir

When a sci-fi novel is done right, people who aren’t fans of the genre can also enjoy. Project Hail Mary was recently adapted into a movie and it has started trending once again. Weir has always been one of the best sci-fi authors for a while and this novel is a must read for fans of great writing.
Ryland Grace is a science teacher who becomes an astronaut and awakes from a coma with amnesia on a spaceship. He slowly has to recover his memories and realizes he is humanity’s last hope. Ryland discovers that he has been sent on a mission to stop an alien miscrocosm from consuming the sun. If he fails, life as he knows it will come to an end.
I’m Glad My Mom Died

Jennette McCurdy’s autobiography I’m Glad My Mom Died has to be one of if not the best biographies of the 2020s. It is an honest account of being raised by a mother who lives vicariously through her daughter. It wasn’t Jennette’s dream to be an actress but she can’t let her mother down ever.
The book touches on her childhood and her difficult relationship with her mother as well as her death. McCurdy holds nothing back which is why it has resonated strongly with so many people since its publication.
Fourth Wing

Normally, I don’t read romantasy novels because that isn’t my type of book. But with all the hype surrounding Fourth Wing and it was a fantasy novel, I decided to give it a go. And I am glad because this was a fantastic novel and a series I hope to finish!
Violet is a 20-year-girl who is forced to enter the Rider Quadrant even though she was supposed to become a scribe. Now, she has to survive against all odds in the war college and become a dragon rider as other contestants try to kill her. This novel has taken the literary world by surprise and already has a large following in less than a year.
Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin

You can’t go to any bookstore without seeing Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow displayed. This novel tells the story of a decades-long friendship between Sam Masur and Sadie Green. They share a love of video games and after reconnecting after college, they go to build a game development company.
There aren’t many books that tell a beatuoful story with video games at the center. You know a book is sepcial when it makes Barack Obama’s yearly reading list. What makes this book special is its exploration and the how life brings everything full circle.
Conclusion
That is at Goodread’s 20 best books of the 2020s list and it is a diverse one. The list includes books from all genres and is sure to satisfy all types of readers. Some of these loves are dear to me while others I might read if I don’t have anything on my to-read list at the moment.
How many of these books have you read or plan to read? I have read four of these and will check out a few more of these as I will be adding them to my to-read list. Until next time, happy reading!
