As the year winds down, we finally have enough data to see which books truly dominated the charts. That’s why we’re taking a closer look at the best-selling books in the United Kingdom in 2025—and the results may surprise you.

U.K. bestseller lists often look very different from those in the U.S., and this year is no exception. Some authors enjoyed massive success at home that didn’t fully translate overseas, while unexpected genres surged in popularity. One author in particular completely dominated the charts—and many readers outside the U.K. may not even recognize his name.

That author is Richard Osman, who topped the list with his latest mystery novel. Known in the U.K. as a beloved television presenter and BBC personality, Osman proved that his appeal at the bookstore is just as strong as it is on screen. He wasn’t the only author to benefit from strong local support, either.

Several major franchises returned to the spotlight, blockbuster fantasy romances continued their reign, and—perhaps most unexpectedly—coloring books made a strong comeback. You can see the full list of the best-selling books in the U.K. below.

The Best-Selling Books in the United Kingdom (2025)

What Stood Out in 2025

The Impossible Fortune, the fifth book in the Thursday Murder Club series, claimed the top spot with nearly 400,000 physical copies sold. Even more impressive, Richard Osman placed two books in the top four, cementing 2025 as a breakout year for the author.

Coming in second was The Housemaid by Freida McFadden. With its film adaptation arriving in December, the novel may yet see another sales surge before the year officially closes.

Suzanne Collins also returned to the charts with Sunrise on the Reaping, a prequel set in the Hunger Games universe. However, one of the biggest overall winners was Rebecca Yarros, who landed three separate titles in the top 20, showing no signs of slowing down.

Perhaps the most unexpected trend? Coloring books. Once thought to be a passing fad, they quietly made multiple appearances on the list—suggesting readers are still turning to them for comfort and relaxation.

These rankings are based on data from NielsenIQ BookData and offer a fascinating snapshot of what U.K. readers gravitated toward in 2025. Were you surprised by the results? Do you think bestseller lists in other countries will look similar—or completely different?
