if you were to ask me last year if I was reading history books, then I would have said sometimes. But this year, I made it a mission to find great nonfiction books and learn about historical events. There is something about reading a detailed book about a moment in history that has been forgotten to time.

I have always loved history books growing up. But my reading taste has always leaned towards fantasy and mystery novels. Having a good book to read makes the biggest difference is what I learned.

The list of the best history books of 2025 start off strong with Mark Twain by Ron Chernow. I love an interesting biography and this one has been getting great reviews. Twain is an exceptional author and reading this will teach you a lot about him.

The books on this list I am eager to read are 1929 and The Rembrandt Heist. Those books are more up my alley and I am already excited to read them. But any books on this list is a great choice.

I have not been the biggest fan of nonfiction books but I have found myself eager to read more as of late. History books are one of my favorite and I enjoyed it as a subject in school.

Books like these share interesting little known events with a lot of research. It is going to pique your curiosity and make you wonder why this isn’t taught in classes. if they were, more students would be interested in history.
