Every year, Obama releases two lists, one in the summer and one at the end of the year, of his favorite books of 2025. His picks are always unique and you can tell he knows what books are worth checking out.
I don’t know about most people but I would love a list of all the books he read. This list is still more than enough and it has some fantastic picks. It should surprise nobody that Obama has great taste in books. You can see the full list below!
Barack Obama’s Favorite Books of 2025
- Paper Girl by Beth Macy
- Flashlight by Susan Choi
- We the People by Jill Lepore
- The Wilderness by Angela Flournoy
- There Is No Place For Us by Brian Goldstone
- North Sun by Ethan Rutherford
- 1929 by Andrew Ross Sorkin
- The Loneliness of Sonia and Sunny by Kiran Desai
- Dead and Alive by Zadie Smith
- What We Can Know by Ian McEwan
- The Look by Michelle Obama
This is a list full of some of the best books of the year. Paper Girls is going to be in contention for many awards and should win some big ones. And I have seen Flashlight and The Loneliness of Sonia and Sunny make a ton of lists.

These are going to be the books I will be trying to read come 2026. 1929 might be one of the first nonfiction books I read because it is exactly my type of book. If Obama is raving about it, then I know I am in for a treat.
We shouldn’t be surprised to see Michelle Obama make his list. Barack is his wife’s biggest supporter and you love to see it.
Conclusion
These are all of Barack Obama’s favorite books of 2025 and it is a fantastic list. It has a great balance of fiction and nonfiction. And many of these books have made multiple end of year lists so you know they have to be good. I can’t wait to read them for myself very soon. Until next time, happy reading!
