I have been reading a lot of mystery novels this year and I am always adding new ones to my ever-growing reading list. And after seeing the list of the most read mystery and thrillers of 2025, I know I won’t be adding much of the books from it to my to-read list.

That’s because most of the list includes books by Freida McFadden. She releases one book every other month and has flooded the market in the past couple of years. After reading a book by her, I knew she wasn’t for me and that I won’t ever be reading a book by her again.

If you experience has been better than mine, then you will like this list. The books that aren’t by McFadden on this list are good and ones I would recommend to mystery and thriller fans. you can see the full list below!

The Most Read Mystery and Thriller Books of 2025

The first book on the list that isn’t by McFadden is The God of the Wood by Liz Moore and I will definitely be reading it soon. It comes in at fourth place and I expect the success of this novel to make Moore a mainstay on many Goodread lists in the coming years.

The next book by another author is The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides. If you love thrillers, then you have to read this book. There is a reason this novel has been popular for the past couple of years and on most lists of the best thrillers.

Beautiful Ugly by Alice Feeney is another novel that has come out of nowhere and become a fan favorite. I have been seeing this novel everywhere lately and can’t wait to read it.
