As we get closer to the end of the year, more and more end of year lists are going to be released. And this week, the Washington Post has released their lists of the 10 best books of 2025. So, keep reading to find out what they are and what we thought of them!
While the Washington Post isn’t my go-to publication for news and book recommendations, I do love their dedication to books. They have been consistent and are many people’s go to source for news and books.
And today, we will be looking at their list of the 10 best books of 2025, chosen by their staff at the Washington Post. The list is interesting and looks a lot different than I would have guessed. You can see the full list below!
The Washington Post’s 10 Best Books of 2025!
- Ruth by Kate Riley
- The Slip by Lucas Schaefer
- Stone Yard Devotional by Charlotte Wood
- The Wayfinder by Adam Johnson
- The Wilderness by Angela Flournoy
- The Fate of the Day by Rick Atkinson
- A Flower Traveled in My Blood by Haley Cohen Gilliland
- Gertrude Stein: An Afterlife by Francesca Wade
- Melting Point by Rachel Cockerell
- Motherland by Julia Ioffe
I have not heard of any of the five fiction books that the Washington Post chose as their best books of 2025. Maybe I am out of the loop or maybe they wanted to be different and surprise everyone. Because that is what happened and I am curious to see how their picks hold up compared to other lists.
This list includes five fiction and five nonfiction books and that is a fair way to do this. They also released various lists so I can’t even complain about this list to be honest. It is a combination of two lists and an easier way to see their overall picks.
Conclusion
These are the Washington Post’s ten best books of 2025 and it is a good list. I do need to brush up on their fiction picks and see if they are onto something or just want to be different.
What did you think of this list? We will be looking at and covering various other lists by the Washington Post in the coming days. How many of these books have you read or plan to read? Let us know in the comments below. Happy reading!

I’ve read “A Flower Traveled in My Blood” – it was amazing true story of a very dedicated grandma. I’ve also read “The Slip” which is about a sixteen year old boxer — this one is unique. I think most people will either love or hate it with some of its transformation themes, but I really enjoyed it. I haven’t heard of the others but will check them out!
I’ll add those books to my reading list!
I love reading these lists to see how many of the books I have read. Sadly, it was a big fat zero this time. Silver lining – I have a list of reads for my consideration. Thank you 😊
