This was a great year for new science fiction and fantasy books and I can’t wait to read them all. Barnes & Noble has released their list of the best science fiction and fantasy books of 2025 and we will be looking to which books made their list!
While I don’t consider myself an expert on fantasy novels, I am always following the genre and keeping tabs. I can’t say the same for sci-fi novels but I am always adding new sci-fi books to my reading list.
So when I saw this list by Barnes & Noble, I was excited to see what books they chose. And it is a good list but many of these novels are new to me and I will have to see other lists before I know how good this list actually is. You can see the full list below!
Barnes & Noble’s Best Science Fiction and Fantasy Books of 2025!
- Alchemised by SenLinYu
- Katabasis by R. F. Kuang
- Brimstone by Callie Hart
- Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by V. E. Schwab
- The Knight and the Moth by Rachel Gillig
- Alchemy of Secrets by Stephanie Garber
- Silver Elite by Dani Francis
- There Is No Antimemetics Division by qntm
- The Strength of the Few by James Islington
- Thief of Night by Holly Black
- Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros
- We Are Legion (We Are Bob) (Bobiverse Series #1) by Dennis E. Taylor
- Water Moon: A Novel by Samantha Sotto Yambao
- A Curse Carved in Bone: Book Two of the Saga of the Unfated by Danielle L. Jensen
I have only read one book on this list and I am surprised with that fact. Well, not really because I often read fantasy books based on my interest in the book blurb. But that just means that I’ll have more sci-fi and fantasy books to check out.
The one book I read was Katabasis by R. F. Kuang and I had been looking forward to this novel for almost a year when it was first announced. And I loved every second of it. Kuang is a great writer and her magical systems have been some of my favorite and it was no different in this novel.
Conclusion
That is all for Barnes & Noble’s best science fiction and fantasy books of 2025 list. I would have preferred two separate lists for science fiction and fantasy but what can you do?
Overall, this list is decent and until I read other lists or read many of these books for myself, I won’t really be able to rate it. How many of these books have you read or plan to read? Let us know in the comments below. Happy reading!
